Every year most famous Carnival in Spain takes place in The Canary Islands. One of the highlights of the week is the Drag Queen Show, where one of the contestants is crowned as the Drag Queen of the year's Carnival in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The stunning performance by Drag Sethlas, the winner, features Like A Prayer by Madonna, Judas by our queen Lady Gaga and El Señor de la Noche by Juan Magán (a true bop). Today, everyone who has watched the news on TV has listened to this masterpiece. Many catholic groups have dissed the performance (you'll see why :lolly:) while almost everyone among the general public has praised it.

Enjoy!

This is so offending and unnecessary in so many ways

And it's coming from someone who's probably offended when someone doesn't know the difference between trans and drag or something

You are not really catching the concept of the carnival i thought.

Offensive is catolics with all the anti-gays bullshit, an example http://verne.elpais.com/verne/2017/02/27/articulo/1488212911_849849.html?rel=mas

Then make the performance a little bit more clear on homophobia. :oprah: I'm all for people criticizing mainstream religion through art, and I'm well aware of drag being heavily rooted in shock performances, but this performance and concept seems contrite. For one, those priest back up dancers are dressed up as klan members, who have been publicly denounced by the Catholic Church. Furthermore, Klansmen are exclusively a southern, neo-evangelical baptist idea, not anything of the Catholic Church. If you want to criticize their history of bigotry deeply rooted in the Church's past (and present) do something that is at least relevant to that particular branch of Christianity. :oprah:

Unless they're trying to compare the current state of the Catholic Church to a domestic terrorist group responsible for the queen's crucifixation but still. That doesn't play very well into European culture, especially when it seems increasingly aware that the government is starting to become more conservative and putting more and more minority groups in harm's way.

But then again, this is a drag competition and I doubt it holds very much substance, but still. Religious criticisms should be done intelligently so it doesn't take away from the message behind it.

LMAO They're not dressed as KKK members wtf??

Do they know that ISN'T a priest outfit?

I finally get your point because of that elaborated post by @Edonis

It's not a priest outfit.

Maybe it's my fault because I didn't explain it and probably people who are not from Spain, Portugal and Italy see it as a KKK thing, but it's not.

This is how a Holy Week Parade looks here

It was my fault!! :)

Spanish Holy Week Parades are very wll-known all across Europe and bring here millions of tourists in Spring. I'm not a Christian or whatever but I attend and I love it, and most of the population do the same. So many feelings!

I found a video which explain it in English

Soldiers (legionarios) have their own parades as well
