54 billion? That sounds like overspending, like it's so much.

thats exactly what it is. america has the most fortified defense/military (and all its branches) than anyone else. the government here, now, wants something thats already on steroids to be even more militant in america and in other countries. what he and his cabinet is doing is insane. the america that exists now is not the america i grew up with. (and i'm only 26)

bc i guess, based on everything his people have said, more war and chaos is their only goals, whether that war be between other countries or its own citizens.  :(:ohno:

Yup, that's what I thought, and it's really bad. Like, a few years back I was so eager to go to the US, to study hard and to be able to move there and eventually live because I was looking at it like it was, you know, the promise land.

But after last years happenings, and all of this mess, my desire to even consider moving there is just slowing down...

P.S. I checked your instagram like a true stalker lol and I have to say that your dog is sooo cute!

thats exactly how i feel! and i live here. i have traveled all over the US & lived in many places across the US my whole life. and in a lot of ways it is a promise land. but theres so many issues stemming back to..basically when the colonists invaded that have never actually been resolved. and so fast forward from the 1700s to the 2000s and its just this loud concophony of yelling about the same problems over and over and over again. and now its bubbling up more dangerous than i ever thought it would get to.

i hope things do eventually (soon) get resolved bc there is a lot of personal freedom & your choices as to who you want to be here. but you're right to be questioning how you feel about coming here. you should look out for yourself & your future.

Wait, there's a law against states running deficits? That's ironic as hell considering DC is drowning in debt.

I dont know all the details of the law but yes theres something like that. I assume States can still run deficits but probably can get a penalty? Im not sure

Here in Canada we are the opposite. The Federal government is in great shape with a debt-gdp ratio of only 33% (less than 1/3 the relative debt of the USA), but many of our Provinces and municipalities are drowning in debt

just to put money back in the military industrial complex again? It's a wash and who didn't see this coming...

WH budgets usually never pan out once it's sent to Congress.

Congress has the duty of creating and approving the budget, but formally it doesn't start until the WH drafts and sends their hopeful version of the budget.

It's an outdated formality so don't actually expect this to be in the final version. Dems will for sure talk it down.

It's just like a car salesmen. They throw out a number that is higher than the prices they'd actually settle for because they expect you to talk it down some.

The GOP has always been the party of big military, so this shouldn't be surprising. But hey, how instead of the former Secretary of State handling the military, we have a former reality tv star.

Roosevelt was apart of the Progressive Party and coined "Speak softly and carry a big stick", and Truman (Democrat) dropped the only nuclear bombs on two civilian cities, so I wouldn't say that's a super accurate statement.

****ING SCREAMING

There we go for useless expenses that could be used for something much more needed than ****ing defense :lolly:

I mean some of the most important countries in the Mid East are being taken over by a nation of radical Islam that wants to kill US citizens to defense spending isn't really that crazy :awkney:

The US spends so much because we are the military for all of Europe, NATO (minus Turkey), and Japan.

So unless the EU wants to proliferate so we don't have to in order to keep an Imperial Russia from encroaching on Western Europe and China from taking over the entire Asia sea/trade routes, kindly hold your criticism.

Yeah I know, it's just that I always had this image of the US you know? Even since I was little, I was into American music, movies, and then Gaga came so I guess those were the main factors.

But now, I am considering Canada, which actually has some pretty good conditions for immigrants and students so we'll see

If it were a responsible administration (read: Democrats) doing this I wouldn't be opposed to it. Defense spending is important for the US and the world, as long as it doesn't go towards wars not worth fighting.

If they put this money into military research (innovation) and cyber hacking/defense, it would be put to good use.

tho I think Trump's anti-military and anti-intelligence talk has had way worse effects already (demotivating) that can't possibly be resolved with all the money in the world.
