We already pour enough money into defense. We spend more then 600 billion on defense. That's more then the next 7 countries combined. We could cut the budget by 65% and still have the largest in the world. 

It is a major waste of money and it could be used for other more practical things like reducing the national debt and free college.

The US could cut Military spending by a third and it would still spend DOUBLE what China does on Military. The deficit would also be mostly removed

 

I dont call this "defence"... this is wanting to hang on to World Super Power status which becomes more and more difficult as the rest of the world develops (Asia, Africa, South America) and Americas share of the world economy and influence on markets shrinks every year.

 

Military is one thing that America can spend its way to power on but with drastic concequences. Money for healthcare, education and infrastructure is not sufficient 😑

Instead of spending this defense, we could be investing in our infrastructure. 1 trillion spent on infrastructure would put 13 million Americans to work and according to a study by Duke University, every dollar invested in transportation infrastructure returns $3.54 in economic impact. That is over three and a half trillion dollars in economic benefit over five years. 

Infrastructure spendng is ****ing common sense. It'll create jobs, make our nation better in so many ways and it's actually profitable.

A lot of roads, bridges and pipes in many parts of the US are old and falling apart

 

Now States and Municipalities pay for most if that... but if the US is anything like here in Canada, the Federal Government participates in a share of those expenses

 

Here in Canada unless its a piece of infrastructure that is National like a road that goes across the whole Nation... Provinces and Cities pay for and manage that stuff but there is a federal Budget allowance to cover a percentage of the costs

 

If the Federal Government is cheap in infrastructure budgets States can only do so much

 

Also the US has a law that forbids States from running deficits unless its for special circumstances (like natural disasters or major recession). So they really depend on DC for co-operation on stuff like this

Agreed!

 

But still it has to be rational and thought out. Some Government that have gone on infrastructure crazes to boost economic impact in the past didnt do enough planning first. Greece and Portugal are examples

 

They ended up building roads where it wasnt REALLY needed and other areas that required upgrades didnt get it

 

the result was a lot of wasted money on infrastructure that had to be maintained after being built but didnt have lasting economic benefit and racked up the debt for nothing

 

I love infrastructure spending. America needs to make sure it targets its projects correctly tho

Oh yeah of course it needs to be thought out. But our infrastructure is in such bad shape, a trillion dollars actually seems reasonable.

It is ridiculous when you think about it. He is just so rich that he doesn't care about what ordinary people need. He sees protection as something that is primary goal for everyone, but it really isn't. It's very important to have proper protection, but not when you're starving or having no clean water, or out on the street. No protection will be enough at that point.

Trump doesn't care about education, other than giving advantages to the already advantaged. Economy? He's going to make big tax cuts for the wealthy. 

He says he is going to pay for this increase in military spending by cutting spending on programs such as the EPA and foreign aid.
