Sam Smith was at that time the more popular choice. He was more popular than Gaga that time.  Plus itwas from a Bond film who has history with that category. It was a safe choice. I also doubt the voters took the matter too seriously.  Had it happen post-halftime Gaga would've had more chance.

I wouldn't be pissed if any other song had been the winner (Except for The Weeknd's song). But I felt kind of relieved because of the songwriting issues and Linda Perry's stupid statements. I would like Gaga to win an Oscar on her own in the future.

WOTW didn't deserve the Oscar. It was just a Skyfall rip-off.

Apparently Oscar voters also just vote really quickly for the Original Song, they don't listen to all the songs previously, and apparently just go for the one they recognise from the list......hence the Bond song.

Wow. Once you realize how all the award shows are voted on, the awards really start to become meaningless.

The song that really deserved to win wasn't Gaga's but Anohni's Manta Ray. I like some of Antony and Johnons songs, but this song with J. Ralph is just magical. The more i got into it, the more i get amazed by the craft.

But yes Gaga and Diane if that doesnt make the cut

4. Less Exposure - Of the nominated songs, only Worth It and  WOTW were from blockbuster movies the voters would be familiar with or be likely to have seen.

5H was nominated for an Oscar ?! :rip:

Meh, I don't really care. Of course it would've been nice if she had won the Oscar, but honestly I've always hated TIHTY. It has a very important message but musically, the song is just blah.

All very decent points, especially when the video mentions that the movie industry likes films about itself and the likes of La La Land is a love letter to that industry, so yes. it's a safe bet for Oscars. Though the media need to stop acting like racism is the reason behind every loss a film with a black cast has. It doesn't matter to me if a film is groundbreaking or daring, as long as it's a good film. If you made a film about why murder should be legalised, for example, well, that would certainly be groundbreaking and daring, but the message would be repellent. As long as a film is good, it doesn't matter if it's a new idea or an old idea, it just has to be executed well. Awards should not be given just because something is new or different or challenging. If it's all those things and the best film from the bunch, then yes, it should win. But if being new and different and challenging is all it has going for it, well, that's not enough.

As for Gaga, well, as said before, the voters tend to vote last minute and quickly for Best Song and just pick the one they recognise the most. WOTW was the most recognisable song out of the bunch and the most recognisable movie, so it made sense if that's how you're going to work it. Apparently, the academy is a bit offy about songs that come from documentaries as well. Gaga was also a more polarising choice and had lesser credibility at the time. If only the academy could have seen the reaction Gaga got from the crowd when she performed it (and seen Sam do a terrible performance of his song), then it could have been a different story. I actually saw a comment on YouTube saying that the winner of this award should only be decided once all the nominees have performed it on the night (the real unknowns didn't even get that honour, it was just the 3 biggest names that got the chance). Honestly, I think the academy are now really embarrassed that they let Sam win. His off-key performance in comparison to Gaga's amazing one that moved the crowd made them look a bit silly. Thing is, I actually prefer WOTW to TIHTY, don't shoot me. I love the important message from TIHTY but I think the actual lyrics are too basic and could have been so much more. I wanted Gaga to win to say that she got an Oscar but for this song? It would have been bittersweet.

I hope all this is a blessing in disguise for her, however. Maybe this is a sign that she can't have it all right now, the best is yet to come. Maybe this is a sign that she could have an Oscar one day where there is no controversy over how much she wrote (even better if she truly conceived the idea herself or thereabouts) and it'll be even better if she wins the award from her second nomination. I mean, people are looking at Sam's win as a one-off fluke. For someone who's only released one album and is still so new to win one of the most prestigious awards of all time is one of those lucky successes that'll never be repeated. He won't be nominated again, fact, especially after his many failures in singing WOTW live and his clumsy acceptance speech. But Gaga actually stands a chance of a future nomination because she's been around longer and has proved she's more than a one-album success like Sam has been thus far, plus, the Oscars have already proven to like her. The academy is notorious for giving someone an award years down the line, if they've always been the eternal bridesmaid but never the bride. It'll mean she'll get one someday, I'm sure.
