I think the video does a pretty good job allegorizing the systemic oppression  that society uses to condemns its citizens to mundanity in servitude of the upper one percent.

It's a great video :applause: You can see the budget and the production in every detail. However, maybe now she too deep and conceptual, because I don't fully get it :( Like, what's going on? Are people being controlled and they are fine with that?  Still, a really good and young video, it's fun without being juvenile, good for her!

Individuals are having fun without noticing how dangerous and deadly the rides are at a park called "Oblivia" (forgetfulness); and each ride is based off of a major current or recent past world event, like the housing bubble bursting in late 2000s, nuclear war, or, in one case, a ride going 1984 mph, a nod to George Orwell's 1984 about a dystopian government-controlled future.

Katy herself is one of these people for the first portion of the MV so that each of these things can be demonstrated. Then during Skip Marley's portion, a portion of the people in the park watch a film ostensibly with propaganda in it (due to the black/white palette indicating an old video from ~WWII, which was definitely a time pro-war propaganda videos were used). Katy, however, is wearing tin foil, which at that time was rumored to block or reflect mind-altering radio waves. Thus she begins to realize what's happening and by the end of the film can only look around in wonder and despair at how everyone else is ignoring the true horror of what's going on in the park - so much so that she can't even dance at the end but only stand and witness.

So many don't get the video, do they? I normally don't do this, but why not.

1. The amusement park is called "Obliva", get it? From oblivious? Duh!

2. The amusement park represents the american dream, the nation and it citizens. "The greatest ride in the universe" -> "The greatest nation in the universe", aka USA.

3. Everyone has fun, seems to be happy, but when she tries to touch the roses (the beauty of that world) she got pricked by a rose thorn.

She is first fascinated by this world, smiles, and tries to enjoy it, but she soons sees that something is not right.

4. Everyone is like a zombie, or a robot, doing what they are supposed to, not questioning anything. Waiting in a line, altough the waiting time is 1983 HrsXD

And that's just a min 33 seconds ^^

It's good, but she always do the same type of video. She takes a fun theme, blends it with a basic story and put the song on it. The result is always fun, but the images doesn't always match the song. This pattern is becoming a little redundant. I feel it's always first level with her. I thought she would go deeper this era but no, she still act like a teenager.

Seriously, I feel like every new video of her is a new episode of Dora… :saladga:

With a budget like that it is clear to see that her label believes in her.

Lucky her.

What budget??

I like the song. Its video is a good effort but is not thrilling me much. It had to be a bit more political with better shots, I only like parts of it. And of course there's no linear storytelling. If Perry wasn't copying 'Joanne' merch, if she wasn't shading Britney's mental health and if her payola basic music wasn't IMPOSED to Spotify and radio stations, I would have really enjoyed her pop bubblegums* (*no shade)!

It's actually a great video, better than Perfect Illusion and Million Reasons anyways imo but as usual some monsters have to trash it coz it's Katy :nails:

I enjoyed it well enough. It feels like it's almost there with regards to achieving its purpose. It's heavy-handed and I see what she's trying to convey clearly, but it felt like it needed a few tweaks. Good, but not as great as it could be (much like the song).

The previews made me think it was gonna be a lot better than it is.

But its still a very visually pleasing video to watch.

I thought katy was going to go somewhere deeper with the video, but it never got there

Still better than PI and MR videos though

I really like the video. It was what I was expecting and hoping it would be based on the teaser.

It also reminds me of a lot of dreams I've had where I was in an amusement park but the rides didn't make any sense (roller coasters flying off the tracks, people being happily flung off rides, etc) :duck:

I'm gonna buy the song tbh
