StrawberryBlond 14,962
I was only hearing this as well as her BRITS performance recently. I had no idea it was this bad. I don't know how her fans can continue to defend her at this point. It's extremely rare that she can sing well while moving. Even when she is singing a ballad standing still, she's still not completely stable. 8 years in the industry and she's clearly refusing to take singing lessons? It's unacceptable. How's she going to sell tour tickets if she keeps on messing up at every big gig she's offered? I don't know why she keeps writing songs that require high notes. I've tried singing CTTR - it's nowhere near as easy as it sounds. You have to keep your voice surprisingly light and high in that chorus, which I'm not the best at. But this is a tone that Katy naturally has and she still can't do it. She should stick to doing toned-down quirky little songs, like she did back in the day. It's the only time she sounds halfway decent. You'd think after her countless bad performances of Firework that she'd know what was beyond her. It's made 10x worse by the fact that she sings lines like "are we tone deaf" and "we can do better than that" off-key. You'd think she'd make an extra effort to sing those lines well to avoid becoming a complete joke. I don't know how much patience the public's going to continue to have with an artist who is making no effort to fix a very obvious problem. I know she smokes or used to. Could that be why she's a bit breathless? But look at Pink and Gaga. They smoke to a degree/haven't long given up and they've never struggled in the vocal department, probably because they have singing lessons and look after their voice. Honestly, it baffles me how the arts industry is the one area in life where you can be bad at your job but still remain employed and successful. Why do the public accept it? Though the chart failure of CTTR so far certainly seems like we're changing our minds. If she sounds like this for one song, I can't even imagine what she sounds like during a 2 hour live concert.
