You don't think it's an issue that since 1958 only 2 black artists have one album of the year meanwhile Taylor Swift, who's music is neither groundbreaking or original, has won twice?

Taylor is talented, the end. Don't bring her down to make your point.

The Grammys as well as like every other award show are racist and dumb. I personally don't care about any awards and neither should any one else. At least beyonce always handles it with class. I love Adele but her album is basically more of the same and Beyoncé really pushed herself with Lemonade

My two cents is that Beyoncè didn't deserve the Grammy, she lost to Adele. Either Adele lost and the Grammys don't know talent or Bey lost and they're racist. People will always try to justify and attack someone kinda like how all of Gaga's albums have lost AOTY and yet we're still fine. So everyone should get over it.

>> And there have been accolades, too. In 2013, Mr. Ocean won two Grammys, and he has been nominated since, but come February, he will not win any, because he chose not to submit his music for consideration. “That institution certainly has nostalgic importance,” he said. “It just doesn’t seem to be representing very well for people who come from where I come from, and hold down what I hold down.” He noted that since he was born, just a few black artists have won album of the year, including Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock and Ray Charles.

Though Mr. Ocean said the Grammys reached out to his representatives, he never spoke with them directly before making his decision. “I think the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated,” he said. “I’d rather this be my Colin Kaepernick moment for the Grammys than sit there in the audience.” <<

hmm...

So basically he's mad he didn't win a Grammy but he didn't submit any music to be eligible? :flop:

Adele's album is very good. It conveys a lot of emotion and it's just great.

It's not like she lost to Migos or some ****.

Get over it.

Adele's album is just a love songs & heartbreak songs, it's not original at all. At least Beyoncé took some risks.

I don't know where you got your sources from but here are a few black artists who won AOTY:

Stevie Wonder (he won three Album of the Year awards), Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill.

While racism and discrimination is still very much rampant in the industries (film, music, or otherwise), there's no need to lie to prove a point :neyde:

While this has little to do with racism in the industry: in the case of the Grammys, it's at least good to keep in mind that 5 out of 17 of the most Grammy awarded people are African-American. Could be a trophy/trendy/to please the people thing, but hopefully that changes.

OT: Beyoncé most definitely deserved AOTY this year. 25 was a good album, but personally it felt like a step down from previous albums. Lemonade was such a powerful force when it released it's absolutely ridiculous B didn't get the award. I'm genuinely shocked.

On Solange, girl...you got your Grammy and I'm happy for you, shocked for your sister, but just...no. Be proud that your sister is the most Grammy awarded female of all time, and that alone proves no matter what your skin is, you can slay.

EDIT: Nvm can't find the 1958 tweet. Solange still turned out to be wrong with the "last 20 years" tweet. I don't know why, but I find it kind of shameful she doesn't acknowledge black artists who did in fact win the award, and the black artists who won in other categories as well let alone count right.

Firstly, Solange is actually incorrect. 4 Black artists have won album of the year in that Time period. Ray Charles, Lauren Hill, Outkast and Herbie Hancock. Secondly, several other non white artists including Santana and Norah Jones also have won it.

Thirdly, Adele wrote an album with a small team that went on to sell 20 million copies including the no 1 smash hit hello which stayed on top for 10 weeks. Beyoncé had an album made for her with a team of over 76 producers, writers, collaboraters and musicians. There was no hit single or memorable song from the album. Formation spent a solitary week at no 10 after the predicted Super Bowl Boost then quickly faded away. Spectacular video, but no actual tune, which really could sum up most of lemonade. Remember when Beyoncé had actual hit catchy singles like halo, Single Ladies and irreplaceable? Yeah..seems a while ago huh?

Pretty much end of story. How can the album be "baring her soul" when she didn't even write it?  Solange needs to sit down and stop using her sister for her own ends.

I just checked and Stevie Wonder won AOTY too (three times). I just re-read Solange's tweet and I don't know what she meant.

Solange used the figure "20 years". Steveie wonder won his before this. However, she was still wrong about the number of black artists that won the award within the last 20 years.

Ok so 4 since 1958... I just read that Solange tweet and believed her but I don't know where she got her source from.

And they're the most awarded because of the many R&B and rap categories not because of the 4 major categories
