lego 44,165
Sunday night (Feb. 12) was supposed to be a big night for Metallica at the Grammy Awards, as the metal legends performed with pop superstar Lady Gaga. However, things didn’t go quite as planned. First, actress Laverne Cox forgot to mention Metallica’s name when she introduced the performance, and then the Grammys forgot to turn on James Hetfield‘s mic during the first two verses of “Moth Into Flame,” leaving the frontman visibly upset as he walked off the stage. However, just a few short hours later, the band was able to channel their anger into a monster set at the Hollywood Palladium as part of the weeklong Citi Sound Vault series at the famed venue — and this time the mics were on! After taking the stage more than an hour later than their scheduled 10PM set time, Metallica kicked things off with “Hardwired,” the very song that they were nominated for at the Grammys. From there, the rest of the 10-song set consisted of all classics, including “Creeping Death,” “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” “One,” “Master of Puppets,” “Enter Sandman” and the set closer “Seek & Destroy,” among others. It wasn’t until the very end of the gig that the band addressed the snafu at the Grammys, as Lars Ulrich stepped to the front of the stage. The drummer made a comment about how nice it was that the microphones at the Hollywood Palladium worked, and suggested that they should send them over to the Staples Center, where the Grammys Awards took place. It's not her fault though? Surely they aren't upset that her mic was on. It messed up their collective performance. I think they would be mad at her if she didn't share her mic at all, being basically like "nah this is ur problem " But both handled it very professionally imo.
