Huffington Post drags Katy for Britney comment

These days shaving your head has become synonymous with having a mental breakdown. Yes, it is because of Britney, but I really don't think that it was Katy's intention to shade her.

Well, the bad thing is that if she wasn't referring to Britney then she was basically implying that shaving your head is a result of mental health issues or breakdowns. As a female, shaving your head can be extremely empowering. For some it's a symbolic act of letting go of vanity, or of rising above the idea that women having hair is a social necessity. It can also be an act of renewal. Hell, it's a great way to dump a really bad dye job too. So whether she's 'joking' about Britney's mental health issues or just about a supposed result of a mental breakdown, she needs to take several seats.

Not to discuss moderation publically, but I got into trouble for very vaguely alluding to a member in another thread for saying a very ignorant thing, which then was seen as a "personal attack" or "bullying". It was recognized as such, even though TONS of people have said similar things on here as well (and still continue to do so). (In the end the conflict got somewhat resolved tho, so I'm not complaining!)

In this case however, the dots however are clearly more connected than in my case. There are no other superstars who shaved their head publically during their mental health struggles. It is very obvious who was meant and what it referenced.

If I was held accountable for my (minor) actions on here, it would be kinda hypocritical to not hold her accountable too. If Katy Perry can do it and have people defend it on here, I should have never gotten into trouble for it in the first place.

She probably didn't, but it was still an insensitive, mean thing to say. Imagine if a colleague or peer of yours made light of what was arguably the hardest and darkest moment of your life. Britney should celebrated for surviving those years and thriving since. She has gone on to have an incredible career. We should celebrate her perseverance, not use her mental breakdown as a punchline. Reminder: Katy Perry is the same person who came for Gaga when she said "using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian using a fart joke." The same can be said for someone who uses mental illness as a punchline...

that was a new low, even for her. she did seem very nervous and out of place, but what she said was just ignorant, disrespectful, and, well, plain stupid.
