Katy's new music flops, says Yahoo! Australian

The singer’s latest PR stunt went horribly wrong.

It’s been almost four years since Katy Perry’s last album Prism was released, so her fans would probably do anything to hear new music from the star, right?

Wrong! In a worldwide marketing stunt, Katy directed fans to locate disco balls in different cities, including Australia's very own Sydney.

Once found, fans could plug in their headphones to hear Katy’s new single before she performs it for the first time ever at the Grammys this weekend. Good in theory, but in execution, the activation has been a bit of a fail for Katy.

In New York, Vanity Fair reported that only six people showed up to Brooklyn’s McCarren Park to listen to the song, including a guy who is “more of a Beyoncé fan if I had to pick.” Oh, dear.

Meanwhile, in San Francisco, the ball was moved by Katy’s record label because of permit issues, meaning only three people managed to locate it and listened to the song. Cringe!

Other tweets showed the balls looking a little lonely in various international locations.

Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.

Sorry guys, I will not participate in this party anymore. Even Katy doesn't deserve such treatment.
