BloodyJudas 2,758
Hello guys! So nice to talk to you and see we are all rejoicing the praise Gaga has garnered lately. I am genuinely curious to find out what you believe Gaga's career would look like if she had released JOANNE in 2013 right after the Born This Way album and ARTPOP in 2016 afterward. How would she be perceived now? Would C2C still happen? The EDM sound currently appears to be a thing now so I suppose Applause-and-Venus-like songs would be more than welcome on the radio stations. If you ask me, I reckon that if she'd released Perfect Illusion back in August 2013 , radio stations would've been willing to spin it (and I guess it takes some time to warm up to this song, which is essentially an earworm). She could've also played it safe and brought out "Million Reasons" as the lead. There was a myriad of ballads in 2012-13 which had achieved a great success ,such as "Stay", "When I Was Your Man" and the list goes on". Personally speaking, Gaga needed to take it down a notch after the flamboyant and controversial album that BTW is thought to be. I also dare say that ARTPOP is a great album full of smashes but regrettably it was given to the public in the wrong place at the wrong time. I could imagine Applause and Do What U Want smashing the charts right now. Tell me monsters your stance on the ARTPOP-JOANNE swap and whether this reversal would've changed the perception of Gaga back in 2013 and now. Thank you in advance for sharing!!! Love ya all <

Red 97,978
Joanne would flop and ARTPOP would be a hit. It wasn't the music that made ARTPOP underperform, it was Gaga's momentum. If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Bambino 24,266
It was Gaga's management and her personal messes that ****ed up ARTPOP, not the album itself, so swap any album you want, and it'd be still be the same thing to me.
ShockPop 7,747
No difference. The reception to her was never about ARTPOP.

Born This Way was basically being promoted by being of TFM's backburner, and if anyone else released BTW it would have flopped bad.
John Wayne 4,490
It would have been better but ARTPOP still wouldnt have been received well. ARTPOP never steered into one genre, that's why it wasn't received as we have hoped
socotra 3,310
I agree that Gaga's sounds are a little out of sync with what else is popular. Million Reasons sounds better suited for the 2013/14 onslaught of the "When I Was Your Man", "Stay", "Say Something", "All of Me", "Just Give Me a Reason" etc. ballads. I think MR is better suited for that era than ARTPOP was. Conversely, ARTPOP has a sound more in line for 2016/17, where "Sorry", "Closer", "One Dance", "Work", and "Starboy" have dominated the charts. Applause, Do What U Want, Sexxx Dreams (if Black Beatles and Bad and Bougie could hit #1, I definitely think SD could), and G.U.Y. would've slayed had they been released this year rather than in 2013 – particularly with the Super Bowl performance. That being said, the nail in ARTPOP's coffin was her management and Gaga's personal problems. I personally think she should've waited more between BTW and AP. The messy rollout and unsupportive management makes any argument about switching the albums moot because if they couldn't make ARTPOP successful, I doubt Joanne would have fared much better.
