Gaga's Oscar Hopes

So I know it's a long way off but I've tried analysing what the chances are that Gaga gets nominations or wins for A Star Is Born based on existing data and winners. If she writes an original song for the film she win also be able to be nominated for that alongside best actress.

Here is a breakdown of relevant facts and statistics to give you an idea of what she's up against:

The 3 versions of ASIBs:

1937 version: 6 nominations, 1 win (best story)

1954 version: 6 nominations, 0 wins

1976 version: 4 nominations, 1 win (best original song)

Academy Awards for debut pefromance:

Best Actress

Shirley Booth (Come Back, Little Sheba, 1952)

Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins, 1964)

Barbra Streisand (Funny Girl, 1968)

Marlee Matlin (Children of a Lesser God, 1986)

Best Actor

None

Release date:

IMDB lists the 28th of September but release dates often change

Awards contenders are released at the end of the year so this date shows Warner Bros has faith in the film

Her Co-star:

Bradley has been nominated for best actor three time and for best picture once

Jennifer Lawrence won best actress in Silver Linings Playbook with Bradley as her costar

Songs to be released in motion pictures in 2018:

Disney usually wins this category and an original song written by Gags will be up against songs from Giagantic written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and
Robert Lopez (who wrote let it go) and Mary Poppins Returns songs written by Lin Manuel Miranda.

My Conclusion:

Overall I think Gaga has a good shot at a nomination in both categories but a win would take an exceptional performance or exceptional song. Getting an academy award nomination would legitamise herself as an actress and help her get more film deals in future

For original song she'll probably get, and that's very good :) Can't wait for 2019 Academy Awards!

the shoot hasn't even started and already we're handing out awards for someting we haven't even seen or heard.... setting ourselves up for disappointment... and of course conspiracy theories ("Oscars are a joke!" etc)

Is there any humility left in this fanbase?

Oscars has changed. I don't expect her to be nominated for best actress, unless 2017 is a year of weak performances. If it's like 2016, which not even the marvelous Amy Adams could grab a nomination, no chances for her.

We are not losing our humility by actually dreaming for our idol and for actually grabbing a great opportunity.

This is not a question of humility, it's just discussing the possible feedback of the movie. Some people here get excited about Gaga's success, because we know she works so hard and puts her heart and everything. I have heard countless times the sentence "setting ourselves up for disappointment" - about the Superbowl, the album, the singles - Oh well, maybe some of us just like to get excited for Gaga's projects, don't know :)
