I'm most confused about this "disco" thing that keeps getting mentioned.  I didn't hear a hint of Disco in it.

By the looks of things so far, yes. Don't know how she'll do in the US but I don't think she's really catching on worldwide. In the UK, the song's currently at #6 on itunes and has a light pink update. It's just over 100 points ahead of the song at #7 and the song at #7 has a light green update and is reduced, so she's going to be overtaken real soon. There's also songs below her that make up for their lower chart position with streams and/or have multiple versions charting. And remember, its only been out a day. She's going to be lucky to debut in the top ten by next Friday. PI debuted and peaked at #12 here. I don't know about peaking but Katy could end up debuting in the same position. And I must add that PI did have a short period of being #1 on itunes. I think it was #1 for the first day (I think) and then dropped as the week wore on. But it was definitely #1 for a time. CTTR's highest peak has been #3 and she couldn't even hold onto that for long. Remember this is the lead single off a Katy Perry album. All Katy's lead singles (including Part Of Me) have gone to #1 in the UK. This will be the first not to, by the looks of things. Ok, she's up against 2 big Ed Sheeran songs but those songs have been out for over a month and have had a ton of sales every week, so the public's focus should be waning by this time and Katy should be gliding past them. Her star power has always given her a #1 lead single in the UK up until this point.

Prepare for a bumpy ride, especially if she does limited international promo. Katy's last #1 in the UK was Roar and her last top ten was Dark Horse. It's been 3.5 years since her last hit, basically. She's never taken a break this long, so there's no telling how the world's going to react to that. But early reception is negative. The first day of sales should be HUGE for someone of her caliber, yet she had the same amount of sales one would expect for a song that had been released weeks ago or the sales that you'd expect from a third/fourth single. Where's her star power gone? Where have her devoted fans gone? The beginning of this era is reminding me so much of PI that it isn't even funny. I don't think she or her label could have forseen this.
