Well she should have probably started before releasing a song because now it just looks like pure pandering.

I honestly doubt she is ever going to get political. Without the general public she has little to no chances of surviving as a pop star.

She's been talking politics for the past year. The f*ck...

Liberals have this want and need to live in this progressing agenda. We claim to be tolerant but exclude people that disagree with us. We have this need to create tolerant bubbles when infact they aren't tolerant at all. I feel like thats what she's describing in this song.

She's describing the same thing all critics of structuralism have described since the sixties "white-picket fences", "bubbles", "chained to the rhythm", honestly, its the same repeated imagery that screams classic suburbia culture. I really don't see how liberalism can be attached to a song like this.

They are and the instrumental is very good too. I don't like the way it's sung though, if that makes any sense? I don't feel like singing along to it.

It's an ok song, just not for me.

Edit: just realised that my comment could have been posted in the Lyric Video thread. This one is focused on the lyrics/message. Oops, sorry.

She's not calling people out, she's describing an experience she's had after the elections. She's including herself in her narrative.

Then the song is quite bland on the political/social side just like Firework was.

I don't think the message is bad, but I don't really appreciate an empty message. In my opinion this kind of messages are as valuable as wishing for "world peace" on a pageant.

Can you tell me what she could have done to make a non bland/empty statement?

She supported Hillary and tweeted some support for a few causes. That's about it.  Supporting Hillary Clinton doesn't make you a social justice warrior, most celebrities supported her anyway.

On my first listen, I was just listening for the actual melody/rhythm of it all, and I was very much disappointed. I do like the lyrics and the message though, its a good metaphor. The feature lyrics are more obvious political though, and I wish the whole song had that kind of "**** you" edge if you get what I mean.

I hope the video is incredibly political and talking about how ****ing blind people are. Hear for Katy going full "I'm a white person, and I have privilege" tbh, I feel like she wants to be really political and is just getting into expressing it. It is kind of surface level here (and not instantly detectable) but I'm here for her exploring it :applause:

Now if only the song was sonically interesting :gum:

私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

I think the song describes herself as much as anyone else though. It's just as much a critique on herself and her rose-tinted glasses, her comfortable bubble. It's a reaction to the shock she, and so many people, felt about Trump's election win. It's the bubble bursting.

I'm not even sure I'd describe the song as Katy calling people to act - I'm not sure that's even the intention. It's more of a reflective song I think, a reflection of the madness that so many people didn't see coming. It's her questioning herself and her perception of the world really.

I get that's the point of the song but to me it's just bland.

I don't know, the message of the song just makes me think "well duh, welcome to reality miss valley girl".

Maybe being more direct with her message. We have artists out there singing about police brutality, prescription drugs and wars.

I appreciate that she now can see beyond her privilege but I honestly don't care for the message of this song just like I don't care for people who just met reality after Trump's win.

I think you're expecting a little too much from a pop singer. And she doesn't talk about liberalism in the song. She talks about hypocritical liberals.

Katy Perry is not Kendrick Lamar tho :ladyhaha: A little too much to expect from her.

Yeah, the song is actually kind of dark...

I felt that too, like sure it sounds pretty nice and dancey and like "YAY :awesome:" when first listening but when you really focus on the lyrics it makes you like ":udidnt:". My first listen I was enjoying it normally and only focused on the rodent but the second time I focused on the lyrics and my appreciation has already gone up tenfold :omg:
