robboadam 2,250
EDIT: Not me posting this as praise and you all taking it as bashing her. Lady Gaga’s 2016 was almost as soul-crushingly disappointing as Hilary Clinton’s 2016. Mrs Clinton was unable to move past the perception that something suspicious was going on inside her private email server. Lady Gaga couldn’t get anyone beyond her hardcore devotees excited about her new authentic incarnation. Not even her most blindly devoted followers could deny that their deity went into the Super Bowl 51 half-time show in the uncharacteristic position of underdog. ast year, Beyonce released the Formation video the Saturday before her halftime show. By the time she took the stage the following day, a sizable percentage of the 112 million viewership already had an opinion, pro-or-anti, about the song, the images in the video and the performer. Lady Gaga, by contrast, was coming back from an album that might as well not have existed. There were anticipatory rumblings that, just as Beyonce’s dancers gave black power salutes last year, Gaga would use her massive platform and captive audience to make a similar statement about America’s current regime. As it turned out, she did something much safer but ultimately much smarter. She reminded the watching millions why they liked her. Relying on her first two career-igniting albums, The Fame and Born This Way, rather than her subsequent pair of momentum-halting ones, Gaga descended from the roof of Houston’s NRG stadium— where she warbled a heartfelt God Bless America— swinging and somersaulting on a harness like a panto Peter Pan while belting out Poker Face. She tore through Born This Way and Telephone, before strapping on the keytar for Just Dance. These songs aren’t classics from a distant bygone era, but Gaga’s lengthy, frustrating hiatus from being entertaining imbued her handful of formative hits with the thrill of rediscovery. Even when she sat down at the piano and launched into Million Reasons, one of the few memorable songs from the quick-to evaporate Joanne album, it was hard to feel resentment at her for slipping a comparative misfire inbetween her wall-to-wall hits. A lightning fast costume change into Bad Romance was a fitting climax to a triumphant reminder that this is one of our most electric, most exhilarating pop stars. At a time when pop can be dismayingly conservative, it feels churlish to berate a performer for the crime of having too much imagination. But that’s what happened to Lady Gaga over the past half-decade. ARTPOP was filled with half-baked ideas. Her escape into American Horror Story and her two jazz duet albums with Tony Bennett and the largely dreary Joanne combined to diminish the memory of what made Lady Gaga special in the first place. This Super Bowl performance was a spectacular reminder. It’s hard not to imagine millions of one-time fans firing up the hits she played at the Super Bowl and wishing she’d come up with a few new songs with similar impact. Come back Lady Gaga pop star, the world needs you. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/concerts/lady-gagas-super-bowl-half-time-show-reminder-world-fell-love/

Epione 10,896
Yikes. Some people can't let her experiment and take some different routes. There are a bunch of pop stars who do the same **** every time. You can stay away from Gaga, reporter.
pedrohemg 7,802
Why they have to diss Joane in order to praise her, I don't get it.

Blahwhatever22 8,117
Why are these journalist so interested in her doing A political statement?(Aka anti-Trump speech) I would love to read one article that doesn't mention it. The fact that she did say something political but it went unnoticed is so annoying. It's only when its extreme that people nowadays seem to care. Quasi 10,935
Can't anyone just genuinely praise her without all the unnecessary shade of her past, which isn't even bad by any standards. If you like the performance, write about that. The other sections are contributing nothing to the article and their credibility as a writer tbh. Like, good job you did some research. That's like telling someone after they won the nobel prize "Don't forget you failed this test in high school." I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas.
robboadam 2,250
Guys, I posted it cause personally I think it's positive - you can't deny that most people watching didn't know about 'Joanne' and 'Million Reasons'. My friends barely know. It's actually complimenting the show hugely and saying what an impact she made in the years before 2013.

Guest
Despite from the tremendous shade and denial of her recent HUGE achievements I kinda agree with the author. Gaga brought that theatrical side of hers back last night which we haven't seen in a LONG time.
