Why Were These Songs So Successful

Not the biggest fan of Rihanna, but I like the song. Same with Ellie's.

The others... I don't know, they're very palatable with what's in, plain and simple. For the better and for worse.

Diamonds is one of her most annoying songs ever.

Maroon 5 used to have great songs last decade.

Roar is one of the worst songs IN HISTORY.

All of those are horrible but "Diamonds." I like it's instrumental, though it reminds me of several other songs. That said, it's still better than most of what Rihanna puts out. Still no matter who sings it, the "shine bright like a diamond" line itself is so unnecessary. Overall, it's success doesn't shock me though. :queenga:

I will never understand why Katy Perry's "Wide Awake" did so well. It's the most unlistenable song she's released in my opinion. Worse than "Roar." I was happy when she finally released "Part of Me" and "Dressin' Up" after they leaked, but "Wide Awake" could've remained in the recycle bin. :madge:

Diamonds was one of the best pop songs of the decade!!

The rest I pretty much agree with.

Edit: ESPECIALLY the hatred of Maroon 5, god they're the worst.

Why do people like anything? Out of those songs I like Diamonds and Roar. I don't like Maroon 5 at all, but other people do. It's all subjective. It's not like every song by Lady Gaga is so brilliant either, although I think she has more interesting lyrics than most other pop artists. Also, I like her style and voice, of course. And I have a lot of respect for her because she is good musician and she is heavily involved in the songwriting. But most of her songs have the same simple song structure as 99% of pop songs, and are very much successful because of catchy hooks, just like Roar and other Katy Perry songs. I love Lady Gaga, but I don't pretend she's a more brilliant songwriter than Max Martin, Stargate and others who write songs for Rihanna, Katy Perry, etc.

Both "LMFAO" and "The Chainsmokers" make music that's meant for being the soundtrack for buzzed people grinding on each other in crowded nightclubs so it's not like they care if their music is of quality or not.

The bigger question is how did any the singles of "ANTI" (and TIWYCF) becomes hits? They all sucked. (Except for "Kiss it Better" and "Love on the Brain")

I actually like "Love me like you do" by Ellie Goulding. It's generic, but it's still a bop.
