KEHLANI is the R&B popstar you didn't know you needed in your life...until now. :) Her debut album, SweetSexySavage is an homage to late 90s/early 2000s R&B albums.

Kehlani is originally from Oakland, California where she achieved initial fame as a member of the teen pop group, Poplyfe, which was a finalist on America's Got Talent. She released her first mixtape, Cloud 19, in 2014. The album was listed among Complex's "50 Best Albums of 2014." Kehlani's second mixtape, You Should Be Here, debuted at number 5 on the national R&B/Hip-Hop chart in 2015 and preceded her sold-out North American promotional tour. In 2016, she was nominated for the Best Urban Contemporary Album Grammy Award for You Should Be Here. Kehlani's debut album SweetSexySavage was released on January 27, 2017.

She's had a rough upbringing - her father died when she was young and her mother was always in/out of jail. She was raised by her aunt and cites Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Lauryn Hill as her musical influencers. She tried to commit suicide after receiving backlash for being accused of cheating on boyfriend NBA player Kyrie Irving when ex-boyfriend PARTYNEXTDOOR posted a photo of them being close again. She didn't cheat.

She's got an amazing style. To me, she's a mix of Rihanna + Jhene Aiko + TLC.

Undercover samples from Akon's "Don't Matter" ! Nice.

Akon borrows from Bob Marley.

I love her and this album is amazing! I was scared at first that there's so many tracks but she really delivered.

Distraction, CRZY, Personal, In My Feelings are my favorites so far :music:

Honestly this excited me and exceeded my expectations by far!

There isn't a single song on the album that I don't like and yes, agree about the cohesiveness. Wish she had some collabs though - would be amazing to hear her do something with Tinashe.

My top 5 are Distraction, Undercover, Escape, Too Much, Hold Me By the Heart. So much range. So sweet, sexy and savage at the same time. :)

Addison Rae

I really liked You Should Be Here (especially the title track) so I know she's going to come through with this album!

The 'savage' part in the album title is a little cringe though but slay a biT
