I'm surprised they haven't looked into more about that since treating mitochondrial diseases would just revolve around fixing the maternal mDNA. Very cool stuff though! And for the people who are freaked out, scientific chimeras are not animals that are going to look like the stuff in sci-fi movies Literally, if an animal manages to pick up another animal species' genetic information and incorporate into their own (with the help of a retrovirus, etc.) that would be considered a chimera. I mean, once the experiments truly bears fruit, and an actual hybrid/chimera is created and fully born, I'm excited to see where we can go from there and how this research can be expanded. The social debate around this research is going to be a mess, but we're never going to progress or go on thriving as a species if we don't keep breaking boundaries, discovering new ones, and breaking them too. Obviously less rights than either humans or animals, considering they'll 'grow' a creature, just to kill it and harvest it's organs. Will it be a true hybrid, or just a pig with human organs?..
