"Most iconic album in history" Jeez, you're reaching something. The album is fun but not THAT good.

Still, it was a hard year and time for Britney but thank God she pulled through and was strong for her kids. Sadly, Amy Winehouse did not have the same fate.

why are young gays so obsessed with this time period? She had a mental breakdown, likely triggered by postpartum depression and maintained by the relentless media hounding.

Anyways, Britney had her chance to be iconic, and she missed it by releasing crappy pop music for the past decade. She literally only had 6 or so years (1999-2004) of relevance in pop music, with a slight resurgence of popularity in 2008.

:awkney: britney IS iconic.

She's the most photographed person of all time if that tells you anything. You sound like the "young gay" for not understanding Britney's undeniable impact on the music industry.

She's always been sick and never treated. The fact that she worked non-stop at a very young age contributed to her meltdown but it was gonna happen sooner or later. If you watch Chaotic you'll see that she was already meltdowning even back then. Other things like marrying Jason Alexander in Vegas, partying too much and the whole Kevin Federline thing are also indication of that.

Oh please. The "most photographed" thing is a ridiculous accomplishment that was made up by Britney fans to make her somehow seem more iconic than she is--which is essentially the entire story with Britney anyway.  A simple google search will yield many different results about the most photographed person--not one of them mentioning Britney (although, interestingly many seem to name Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana)--Diana being an ACTUAL,  tragic blonde iconic figure (aka what Britney fans pretend Britney is)

(in any case, there's no way to prove this for sure.)

Also, I'm 26. I remember clearly Britney's meltdown, and while it was a big deal at the time, it was only because many people thought Britney was essentially going to end up being another Hollywood tragedy, which, as we all know didn't happen. Now Britney is just a washed up pop act; As i said before, her only real impact on pop culture was 1999-2004.

Not to mention her impact on the "music" industry has essentially nothing to do with music, but the cheap shock tactics that her label/managers developed to sell her as a sex icon. People don't care about her music, but what they cared about back when Britney was popular was her scandalous allusions to sex--the Lolita school girl, the "nude" body suit, and the python.

Now that Britney is 35 and the hits are no longer coming, the GP couldn't care less about her. They've moved on. The only real iconic figure from that era that is still universally lauded is Beyonce.

As for Britney fans' last desperate claim to her legacy--her sales. Sure, they're great and there's no denying they're huge, but so were everyone's sales back then. It says a lot that Adele destroyed Britney's opening week sales....in 2015 (aka amidst the streaming era).

I'm sorry but you're wrong lol. Britney was THE reason of the revival of teen pop, she was at the forefront of urban pop with in the zone, and darker dance electronica with blackout, not to mention she popularized dubstep with HIAM. And that song went number 1 and then TTWE becoming one of her biggest hits EVER from the same album. Then there's Scream & Shout after. Britney is the epitome of pop music and celebrity culture. She was controversial and because of it a long with her music that sold very well, it made her iconic. You're blind as a bat if you can't see that. And you know what, she might not sell as much as she did before, and that's okay. That doesn't diminish her many many accomplishments and ways she's influenced pop music. And me and many other fans are happy she didn't die during her break down because it could've very well happened. To disrespect such a terrible time in her life is really quite sickening and evil. She's a human being. And she went through a terrible time. I'm glad you can make light of it, but I won't and you should be ashamed.

And I have more lol. Michael Jackson, the king of pop loved Britney, Madonna, the Queen of Pop loves Britney. I mean Christina Aguilera couldn't even reach her level and she has a better voice. Britney is the whole package. Basically every current female popstar is influenced by her including Lady Gaga. She is in every iconic, music, sales, visuals, legacy, dance, and so on. So BYE

Mess at people doubting Britney's legacy. I was a bit young back then but I can understand the appeal. Britney in her prime was unbeatable. On the same level as Gaga's peak if not more. Her showmanship and preciseness weren't matched by her peers. You can complain about the vocals but Britney's not about that. She revitalized pop music, when it was getting stale. Even Gaga would gladly admit how impactful Britney was.

That was definitely an interesting and mysterious time for Britney. I'd love to hear about it in detail.

Do you hear that? It's poison.

She does. She just doesn't like to revisit that year for obvious reasons.

OT:

- Britney's aunt died of cancer and she was close with her aunt.

- She was overworked from 1997 to 2004. Hell even when she was 7 years old.

- Labeled a cheater even though she never cheated on Justin Timberlake and even his own crew admitted this.

- Wrote an entire album titled "Original Doll" in which she had plans on exposing the music industry and their vile nature however once she premiered Mona Lisa without Jive's consent. Jive records axed the album and forced her to never leak any more songs from that album. It's eerie how Mona Lisa predicted her meltdown.

- Britney is too trustworthy and Kevin Federline did her dirty. They divorced in Autumn 2006 and he threatened to take her children or have partial custody. Kevin was also unfaithful and that fueled into Britney's depression. It was awful enough she just gave birth to their second son but now she has to divorce with her husband and she was still battling post partum depression at this point.

- Britney got tired of  being told what to do by her label. She wanted to rebel. Britney wanted to write more of her own songs and even wanted to sing live but Jive and RCA Records won't allow her to and she felt like a puppet on it's strings.

- The rumors of Britney taking meth were proven to be false but Britney did take some pills that have made her act strange. By January 2007 she was over everything and couldn't handle her depression. February 2007 she shaved her hair off and attacked the paparazzi's car with an umbrella.

- Britney went to rehab in February 2007 and was told Kevin has custody of the children. Britney eventually got out of rehab like a week later.

- Britney hired Sam Lufti as her manager which was very dangerous since Sam was responsible for Britney's mental health spiraling down throughout the year. Sam would cut off britneys phones all of the house, hide her cell phone, take her keys and tell the paparazzi where she was heading to. He chopped up pills and put them in her drinks and food without her even knowing.

- Britney apparently got really drunk the night before the VMas 2007 and was even rumored to have been drunk on stage.

- Perez Hilton told Britney to kill herself and wrote this hateful letter after

"

I had to publish this it so funny how Perez Hilton broke Britney down.

Dear Britney,
**** you!
**** YOU!!!!!!!
We are insulted, offended and disgusted by your “performance” at the VMAs.
Are you ****ing serious???
What you did was disrespectful to your few remaining fans. And it was disrespectful to MTV!
You didn’t even try!!!!!
You should have just cancelled, bitch.
Your performance was beyond pathetic. The old Britney Spears, who was at one point (a long time ago) truly great, would be embarrassed by your lack of professionalism and utterly shiteous appearance at the VMAs.
Where was Criss Angel? Where was the magic? And by ‘magic’ we don’t mean any tricks or illusions.
You seemed dead onstage. You have lost that spark and shine that used to ooze out of you!
We all know you lipsynch, but you couldn’t even do that well at the VMAs!
And you barely danced!
You couldn’t even get good hair extensions??????
You have no one to blame for your failure but YOU!
There was no way you were going to be good. You were out partying every night before the VMAs for three days in a row until almost sunrise! You were probably still drunk or high during your performance!!! You almost tripped a few times, you ****ing mess!!!!!!!
No bullshit excuse that you or your camp will come up with can make up for how pathetic your performance was.
You heard Sarah Silverman was going to make fun of your kids and it upset you? Deal with it! Rise above it! Or don’t go on!
A true professional will DELIVER - no matter what!!!!
Let’s repeat that. It’s worth repeating.
A true professional will deliver - NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
What you did was inexcusable!
Your new manager, Jeff Kwatinez, should be ashamed of himself! You have tainted his reputation and everyone at his company, The Firm, should run and hide.
Your record label, Jive, must be thrilled.
You should apologize to everyone, Britney!!!!
You are pathetic!
**** YOU!
xoxo
Perez
P.S. Your beer belly looked hot!
P.S. #2 - Thank God for Alicia Keys! She is the real deal! She killed it! She is what the VMAs should be all about - the music, the showmanship and the professionalism.
P.S. #3 - How badly did the Video Music Awards suck all-around???
P.S. #4 - For Perez’s full recap of the VMAs, tune in to What Perez Sez, premiering THIS TUESDAY, September 11th at 9 pm - only on Vh1!
P.S. #5 - We hope you are getting help, Britney. Seriously. Sincerely. You need help! We hope you have a good psychiatrist!"

- Britney completed her Blackout album but Sam Lufti forced her to not do Promo and Britney probably didnt want to either. Her label was forcing her to push out an album.

- In January 2008 Britney was hospitalized. Til this day its unconfirmed of what but some say she locked her and her son in the bathroom crying because Kevin was going to pick the boys up. When Britney arrived at the hospital (the same hospital Kanye was omitted) they found an unidentified substance in her body. Luckily it wasn't fatal but Britney got on 51/50 hold aka psychiatric hold. Britney was strapped to a gurney and was obviously on some oral drugs. Unfortunately no one knows what happened to Britney at the hospital. Some doctor at the hospital said they put her in a blank room and she was freaking out. Eventually she got discharged from the hospital. She got sent to the hospital again two weeks later and discharged the next day. Strangely...doctors said there was nothing wrong with Britney other than depression and anxiety. It was like they kept sending britney to the hospital on purpose.

- Britneys mom and dad took Sam Lufti out of Britneys life which was great but her dad decided to put Britney on a temporary conservatorship which was understandable at the time.

- Britneys label forced her to put out another album for the "comeback". Circus came too soon. Britney was still heart broken and healing.

From 2008 to Early 2010 Britney was content and occupied with Circus campaign and world tour.

The 2010 Secret Meltdown

- No one really knows what happened in 2010 but Britney relapsed in 2010 and some britney fans think it was because she never had full time to recover and she reflected on her crazy life. Also her boyfriend at the time (Jason) was controlling and idiotic. 2010 is probably the most mysterious year in Britney's life. Britney was happy and jolly in Q1 2010 and then something happened. Britney and Jason apparently argued at Disney world and she locked herself in a bathroom and cut all of her hair off enough to clog the toilet.

- Britney then found out her dad decided to put her under LIFETIME conservatorship once he saw she relapsed which then fueled into her depression.

- Britney found out fishy things about Jason and was seen often crying

8309.jpg

chorando.png

This was also the day her dad called her and told her about the lifetime conservatorship situation I think. Kevin Federline also still had partial custody.

- Britney was seen in a car with Jason and they argued and there's a video out there that is hard to find but you can see in the car window of Britney throwing multiple punches at Jason.

- July 2010 Britney arrived at a starbucks all fine but something happened and she left starbucks acting bizarre and paranoid

br.jpg

- Around this time Her dad and her lawyers put her on high dosage medication and it changed her personality and aged her like 5 years within the same year.

- Britney wanted Femme Fatale to be an r&b inspired pop album but the label forced her to do more autotune and wanted electronic pop

Beginning of 2010 the britney face and her mannerisms and personality

Britney gets put on medication. The birth of FemmeFataleney/Robotney

1007-britney-spears-nightie-06-480x720.j

britney was sedated and the medication actually made her anxiety worse.

- From 2010 to 2012 they kept trying to find the right medication.

- Britney wanted Britney Jean to be personal but RCA rushed the album and forced Myah Marie to sing for Britney in most of the songs which made britney depressed and insecure.

- This depression and insecurity made Britney get a nose job and get non stop lip injections

Before nose job

After nose job and botox

rs_634x1024-140109144834-634.Britney-Spe

- in 2014 they managed to find something that can make her feel calm. Her personality slowly came back

In 2015 they took britney off medication on a daily basis. Her father felt Britney found a happy balance in her life and according to papers by TMZ she only takes meds per week which explains why she acts like Old Britney again but still slightly anxious and more mature

this was a great write up. thank you for doing this.

Yes. Before 2004 she only had one (Baby One More time) but then in 2008 Womanizer was her second, 2009 with 3, and so on.
