As for Julian Assange specifically, he made it pretty much known that he did not want Hillary to win, it was very thinly veiled. He was on Bill Maher and basically just danced around the topic, which is more than enough to be suspicious. If he really was non-partisan, he could've easily explained how things were. If you realize that you are being used as an agent of propaganda to sway a country, (as he must have known), one would think that more care would be put into simply releasing information.
