Your point? 8 minutes ago, cryingrainbow said: protests are a very common thing for a democracy. i mean how else will people voice their opinions. india is the largest democracy and policy formulations are sometimes driven through public protests. Protesting governmental decisions is, protesting a public mandate is not. If they're protesting the inauguration of Trump that is seemingly undemocratic as it is protesting the mandate of the people. If they're protesting the election process that has led to his inauguration then that is as you've mentioned, a key aspect of democratic legitimacy. With this in mind, you mean to tell me that protesting a mandate of the people of America is democratic?

You can see by their signs what they are protesting They have signs reading "We'll build a wall against racism and bigotry!" and "Stand with Immigrants, say NO to racism!" as well as signs talking about the importance of public education. They are protesting against the policies and rhetoric of Trump from his campaign to today. I think they are reminding the new government that Trump lost the popular vote, that the majority disagree with his policies and rhetoric and that they will resist any attempts for him to push his racist agenda. They are letting their voices be heard, which is a good thing as long as it is peaceful and lawful.

They are letting their voices be heard on this administration. And no, if Hillary won I know it would be the same with people protesting but that is their RIGHT. We can think they look ridiculous but this is democracy. This!! They wouldn't be protesting, they'd be drinking a beer and watching Roseanne or Nascar. OK, I know that was a rude generalization and uncalled for, but seriously.. I know so many Trump supporters (From Louisiana and live in Texas. Family in Louisiana) and none of his supporters have any response on policy. "I just couldn't vote for Hillary". I don't think the protests would be the same and it also wouldn't really be warranted. It is their right though.

The rhetoric of the election campaign should be largely ignored. Lets wait and see what the actual policies are going to be before we protest against them.
