n0ne 13,105
Each decade had a clear-cut official genre up to the 70's. But the 80's onward it gets tricky to decide. 80's: New Wave/Synth-pop, Hard Rock, Metal, and Hip Hop dominated. 90's: R&B, Grunge, Hard Rock, Alternative/Punk Rock, and Hip Hop dominated 2000's: Pop, Dance-pop, Rock, and Hip Hop dominated 2010's (so far): EDM, Hip Hop, Pop, and Indie/Alternative have dominated So if you had to choose, which of these would be declared the official genre of its decade? Explain why. "My people… need to let our bitchiness out. Otherwise, it turns to bile and poisons us"

But in the late 90s pop definitely dominated. Just think of all the boy/girl bands that emerged during that time.

migamiga 12,101
Id say edm for this decade. Its influence has crossed over to pop, r&b, and rap. Even some alt/rock musicians incorporate edm elements.

I debated including Pop in 90s, because it's reign really started the last 2 years of the 90s. While Grunge was early to mid 90s. "My people… need to let our bitchiness out.
