DiscoHeaven23 35,007
Bruno Mars, the most successful male artist of the first half of the '10s, appears to be having a very similar moment to that of Lady Gaga in 2013. Bruno released his lead single during the same time that The Weeknd did. And while The Weeknd's lead single went #1, Bruno's only reached #4 (cough "Roar" at #1, "Applause" at #4). Bruno's previous lead single went #1, just like Gaga's "Born This Way" had gone #1. Bruno seems to be struggling to gain exposure with the Weeknd in the public eye. I mean The Weeknd is everywhere and I haven't heard much of Bruno. Now, even more troubling for Bruno is that Ed Sheeran has entered the game again. Ed's two new singles have stayed in the top two spots on iTunes for a week now, showing that the public is hungry for him. So how is Bruno going to shine through with these two major acts and their huge success?
Brainiac 10,940
You make a good point. I don't believe Bruno is going to have another hit from this new album. The music just isn't good enough.
FATCAT 60,084
Considering they're both very talented, that's a pretty fair comparison. Though, the top songs off of 24k haven't even been singles yet. As long as he doesn't **** up as hard as Gaga did, he should be fine. Poker 3,728
His Peter Gene era is coming. Tonight just call me Peter Kindness rules all.
Jinzo 9,639
i get what you're saying, but the media is not calling him a flop nor he is being made fun of at all, not really sure if its the same tbh
Ray of Light 8,134
Kind of... but not really; simply because he was never as big as Gaga to begin with -- so his fall isn't as noticeable. He was never the media's darling, nor polarizing like Gaga once was. Not to mention, he's a male and the media isn't reporting his under performance the way they played out ARTPOP to be a flop of Nelly Furtado proportions. Artistic blonde diva who rivaled Madonna and once played stadiums.. now selling on par with Katy Perry and Rihanna? End her. Good enough, kinda good looking, young male pop star selling significantly less records than before? Let's root him on!
Squeeshy Keety 9,908
I would agree, but he does have a much higher public morale than she did at the time, so I'll just have to wait and see They / Them 🏳️🌈

Thomas P 18,479
The album has outsold Anti, Starboy, Dangerous Woman, and Joanne though. I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.
FeedTax 280
Versace on the Floor is being played everywhere on radio in Australia and is high on iTunes, is it even meant to be the next single?
Mister Gaga 22,929
Great post. He's not underperforming because sales climate is obviously awful, but he might be underperforming for his own standard. Just like Gaga in 2013. Kind of being not so relevant as before, right? The GP is not that interested. Been there, done that. What's the problem here? 24K Magic is imo not so good as his other efforts (the same was said about ARTPOP, although i don't agree). Nothing seems to be original. His streaming is still very powerful tho.
JustAnotherDay 8,402
Not really, 24k Magic is a bigger hit than Applause and has spent a lot more time in time top 5. Not to mention 24k Magic (album) is selling competitively with ARTPOP even though it was released 3 years later. was NickARTPOP
