It's a canon, Disney confirmed.

Once is an entirely different canon from The Disney Movie canon.

I'd say a closer representative to what you'd like is Kingdom Hearts, since at one point, all worlds were one. However, it is also different in that most of the worlds in the KH canon are alternate continuities, very few actually continuing the storyline of the movies.

The only worlds with the original storylines are suggested to be Olympia, which is hinted be continuing from the movies, and The World Ends with you cast, who were torn from their world in the middle of a game.

90% of this post isn't needed, but I wanted to explain.
