Why would Gen Z be affected by 9/11 or the recession more than Millennials though?

But I can how there are arguments of young people being more fiscally conservative rather than socially conservative. That's probably why the study stands out so much. Young conservatives are much different than their elders imo. In cases that I sometimes see.

Interesting...

Even though I have my doubts about this research, it's certainly true that my generation had a very different upbringing. I've always had the Euro, the alt-right has been prominent in Dutch politics since I was 2 and so has Islamic terrorism. This generation has yet to see big economic growth, and has always lived with the internet. The only real change we saw was from nokias to smartphones.

The right-wing propaganda on debt since 2008 will definitely have had an impact on this generation too, but I don't think it would be that big.

You know, I wonder how much the way media changed and even the evolution of journalism (it is more sensationalists and even now you have fake news being posted all over), distort people's view. To me it also seems that younger generations (and even mine, even though i am not a Z) have less attention span and don't do so much research because you can have access to so much information, at the end, it is difficult to pick what is factual and what is not. So yeah, I wonder how much such technology change and the availability of information impact young people political opinion. Because at the end of the day you could just be on tumblr all the time or end up on breitbart and that would be your only "source" of "news".

The Fame Joanne

I'm shook. I thought I was a millenial.

I wonder if this applies for my country too, since the 2008 recession didn't have a big effect here (in my view)

Eighteen

well that only proves that millennials are greater than every other generation to date so far. nah but they're young, i don't think a majority of them know what they're talking about until they're in college

I used to think the same but I've come to realize that old people on the internet are far more susceptible to propagamda/fake news/conspiracies/etc.

But yeah the attention span has definitely decreased, people can't be bothered to go out on the streets anymore and there's a big kind of sheep-like movement necessary (going viral) before young people come together to use their influence.

Yes probably old people are as well. If you look back at media because photography was considered a truthful media a lot of people would not doubt it and I think it's similar with TV. But now with editing, photoshop and so on, you can't trust the image and honestly you can make images say whatever fits your narrative.

I remember reading this paper for a class and back in the days when people first settled in America they were a very literate nation. They had a way longer attention span but also could be critical. So for example a political debate, you have one candidate speaking for 4 hours and not only people follow but they think critically. Now just look at the last presidential debate in the US it was a joke. It's quite sad honestly! I think the sheep like mouvement you speak about is also probably related to the fact that everyone wants or feel the need to have an opinion because saying "I don't know" or I need to check this is not really common anymore. So you are just going to repeat what feels right for you at the moment. But also critical thinking is not really encourage nowadays.
