Closer by the Chainsmokers is Underrated

That is a false equivalency if there ever was one. 

Lemonade while overrated at times, is creatively strong and a lyrically beautiful work. 

In the end, Closer has had zero creative impact on its genre, and not to mention incredibly boring. You can like it all you want, but there's no 'there there' when it comes to this song.

Yeah but then don't you have to define what quality music is? What are the standards in music and lyrics to you? And why should we all abide by your vision of quality? I know a lot of songs that seem simple, but imo no other artist could have made something so gorgeous, a big example being CCR. I don't like the Chainsmokers but at the same time they are making catchy music that make ppl happy and want to dance, doesn't that take talent?

Once again, so this could stand for the works of Nicolas Sparks and Stephanie Meyer. Their work makes people happy and is popular, but does this mean they make great literature that should be hailed by all?

I mean it was clearly appreciated by the general public since it smashed, it was a generic, catchy, and very easily digestible bop.

Just because a song hits number 1 does not mean it's a quality song though. Bad Romance was massive and had such a huge cultural impact yet peaked at #2

i'm not asking for it to be hailed though. There's so much work out there that i find bad but i won't deny it's impact.

I wasn't saying they make great music that needs to be hailed by all, just saying that they do in fact have talent, and imo to have the ability to connect with that many ppl and make them smile is something special. Are they Mozart? Absolutely not, but I couldn't even nearly make a song as good as Closer that is that big. Nicholas Sparks and Stephenie Meyer aren't the greatest wordsmiths, but they take ppl away from life for a while and that takes a good storyteller, just as the Chainsmokers must be good artists to be able to make so many ppl feel good.
