I hope not! He's not some pop girl that wants to change things up every era. Ed is a singer/songwriter....we pretty much know what to expect. There is a demand for that type of music, just like the demand for other popular music.

That's your opinion, I wasn't trying to be shady or anything. I don't like any artist to stay where they are, I don't know why 'pop girls' are the only ones who are expected to grow. I personally find that really boring - and quite lazy, actually. You can still be a singer-songwriter type without making the same music over and over imo.

I'm also not denying that there's a demand for it. But I don't think your motivation as an artist should be to supply a demand. Maybe that's just me.

I'm appreciative of Ed's talent - I also love seeing people from my country smash it internationally - I'd just like to see that he's not a one trick pony too.

Of course it's my opinion. :)

Eh, some artists stay the same and it doesn't matter. Probably depends on the artist's fanbase and much does have to do with the genre of music and what the general music market will allow in that area. What pop radios will accept vs what a fanbase and the music buying public will accept from an artist are often two different things.

Some artists change it up, some stick to what they know, or basically to what they've done in the past. I appreciate both, as long as they put out good music. :)

Tbh I can't really think of too many iconic artists that have been consistently successful without making at least subtle changes to their sound between albums. Someone like Adele hasn't really changed though, for example. In the defence of Ed Sheeran, he hasn't had very long either. So there's plenty of time (including with this new album) for him to show that he can do something else.

As I'm not really a fan of his, it doesn't make much of a difference to me. I just personally can't relate to stanning with someone who doesn't evolve over the years. For example if Gaga kept making RedOne-produced dance music on every album, I probably wouldn't personally be too happy. I think it's more impressive to show versatility than just be able to do one thing well.
