Why didn't Perfect Illusion become a hit?

Perfect Illusion is annoyingly bad and repetitive. They literally picked the worst track on Joanne to launch the era. literally WTF.

Good song, but definitely too loud and aggressive for the GP. There is NO other song as loud as Perfect Illusion currently on the radio and it says a lot.

live each day like Gaga might drop an album

I'm confused when yall say 'no promo' because it was plastered all over her instagram, all over her twitter, where she has millions upon millions of followers who knew the song was coming/out, and she was at radio stations daily! No, there were no TV performances but to say she didn't promo it? Like what?

Social media is the biggest platform of promotion these days, because most young people don't have cable to see her perform on Ellen or good morning America, or any of that, they use YT, Netflix, or Hulu, and arguably it's the younger generations that make things go viral and gain popularity.

While I personally love the song, the GP just wasn't here for it. Just because you promote the **** out of something doesn't mean automatic success.

Radio was very ready to make it a hit and picked it up extremely quickly, however the public's reception was not good, probably because it is very loud and harsh sounding. It is still an excellent song, just not a good single choice.

It's an amazing song, but the chorus is really underwhelming and short. A good chorus is necessary for a pop hit, and unfortunately, PI doesn't have that.

It's repetitive and not really in the catchy way, it will get annoying having "PARFECKTDILUSHAN" shouted at you over and over again in a song if you're not feeling it.

After the bridge the song doesn't really go anywhere exciting.

The key change sounds awkward. The lead up to it is far too quiet (the synth) or not there (more drums).

Promo was a little on the light side but people were anticipating this song so it's not really that important.

I actually really like Perfect Illusion but it had to grow on me. It does stand out on the radio but there's nothing really catchy about it or extremely pleasing to the ears, it just sounded out of place.

Like a lot people already said : zero promo.

At least GOOD promo. I mean being back to pop music after a 3 years hiatus with a brand new single and not even performing your song is just a huge mess.

Especially knowing radios liked and aired the song. They gave up on it once they saw that Gaga was not even trying to promote it.

People hate Gaga. No kind of promo could have changed this

The big boost after the promo of MR proves Gaga is  actually liked, but do people know she's releasing music ? Not really. I know people who do not even know she has released an album (even if they like Gaga without being fans).

Gaga is badly promoted. That's all...

THIS.

People always say "If the GP liked her, they would buy her song." How the fuk can you buy something you don't know exists??? And MR CK and other performances and the following iTunes effect proved that people are willing to buy her songs, given they know about them. Promo is really the problem.

Too many people here with moral superiority complex.

Tbh Joanne is more aimed to the GP than to her own fans, I mean just look at the lyrics of most of the songs, especially the two songs she picked as singles... It's very simple, easy to relate to. The writing on Joanne is definitely made for GP to like her, a lot more than on any of her previous albums.

The big problem is not music or Gaga herself, it's the way her team is handling her career, her visual, her promo in general, her deals with radios, her streaming and so on... Her management has to be changed asap. SB will help for sure, but it's not like Gaga's management is responsible of this promo spot as the NFL came to her (not the contrary).

The problem is that the GP is not even noticing she's back and her cheap visual (especially on videos) is making her fans going away. The fact a lot of fans LOVE the music but DISLIKE everything that is around her music.
