Guest
I'm talking about looks, not the people the looks are masquerading. Not everyone can be a gorgeous model and that is perfectly fine. But, just because someone has a good personality, does not make them more PHYSICALLY attractive.

Its not just young girls that are in danger, the beauty standards of men are rising every year as well, and so are eating disorders, steroid use, cosmetic surgeries, etc. I am fine with people sculpting their bodies, I dye my hair, wear makeup, and I spend a lot of money on hair removal and skin care, but I think this conversation needs to be talked about more to make sure people are doing it for the right reasons. There's a thin line between self expression and self hatred when it comes to changing your looks, and I wish there were more pressure put on the doctors who perform these procedures to check in with their patient's mental health and how they see themselves, but its always about the money. you beat my social justice self to what i came here for which is good cus im very tired rn https://goo.gl/xMgMvJ

StrawberryBlond 14,871
I find it sad that Gaga doesn't consider herself conventionally beautiful. I think she's gorgeous, even with no make up. I've always been confused by people calling her an unconventional beauty because she looks standard pretty to me. Maybe they're just basing it on her weird make up looks and haven't actually seen her more natural appearance. I agree, beauty is a nice thing but it should never be what is seen as the most important thing, especially when you're a woman and are made to believe that if you have the looks, you don't need to have a personality or be smart or talented. Looks do fade, after all, and society doesn't give you an option of what to do when that happens and you've got everything you have on your looks thus far. Why don't more women aim to be pretty and amazing in every other way too? I was always offended at the concept that I had to choose between being pretty or being actually interesting. Like pretty people have nothing but looks to offer. Well, I've got news for you. If all you aim for is to be pretty, you're going to be cast aside for the pretty ones who also have intelligence, talent, wit and personality into the bargain. Yet, women are repeatedly told that you have to choose between looks and a personality and anyone who thinks they can have it both ways is a stuck up bitch. And so the cycle continues. 3 hours ago, Clip said: I agree! I also need to say that I HATE the current makeup trends. People are caking up their face more than ever (check out Okaylaa's chanel) with all this contouring thing. It looks horrible imo. I also feel like people who contour are "cheating" because they're drawing a different face with a different bone structure on top of their real faces. The point of makeup is to enhance your features, not to draw a new face. I'm okay with people using a little bronzer or highlighting some areas, though. I'm so sick of this "Instagram baddie" kind of look Reveal hidden contents Nice to see someone else shares my views on contouring and overly made up faces. That girl you're talking about seems like an Essex girl (look it up). The whole deal of looking perfect all the time is so overdone and fake looking. Most men don't even like that look partly because they're concerned that a kiss would leave them covered in a layer of fake tan and false eyelash. I'm always wary to label anyone as pretty when they have the entire contents of a make up counter on their face. They need to be bare faced before I can make that judgement. Which is why I usually roll my eyes whenever I see who made the top ten hottest women lists. I look through them and go "Hasn't anyone seen their make up free pics?" Its been known for years that a lot of celebrity women are plain janes under their make up masks painted on by professional make up artists. I sometimes wonder how it must feel to be known as being a stunning beauty when you know in reality that it all comes from make up. That's one of the reasons why an over-reliance on it leads to low self esteem. Because everyone has only seen you with make up, they'll think you're ugly without it. So you have to feed into the delusion by deluding yourself. This is why I'm bare faced natural most of the time. That way, I know when someone pays me a compliment for my looks, I don't have to feel guilt for tricking them, I can truly feel good about the compliment and I don't have to worry about shocking them one day in an unguarded moment. I'm never turning into one of those women who gets up an hour before her husband in the morning so that she can get fully made up before he sees her in her natural ('ugly') state.
