Reveal hidden contents Today it has been announced by Koolboyman (also known as Coolboyman) on Twitter and Facebook that ROM Hack Pokémon Prism is cancelled. It received a Cease and Desist (C&D) from Nintendo. Pokémon Prism is a ROM hack of Pokémon Crystal, a second generation game. Its release date was the 23rd of December. This ROM Hack was recently hyped up in popularity. Part of this popularity was a successful fan trailer which received over a million views. This, however, means that ROM hacks are no longer safe from being taken down anymore. With breakthrough hacks seeing more and more attention from online sites, it's becoming harder and harder to keep releases small and quiet. Koolboyman posted a video in partnership with Twitch Plays Pokémon, and the video has seen more than one million YouTube views so far. It was claimed that an IPS patch was NOT the patch of choice, rather, a custom patcher was going to be used to release the game, and that a dump of Pokémon Crystal would be used with this custom patch, however, Nintendo's layers did not care one bit. This now means that even a patch file still carries legal consequences. I don't think this will effects hacks that much. I mean, I'm sad that this has happened (though I was excited about it) but it kind of indicates you need to be a little more careful with hacks and fangames now. Expand There's quite few out there. Pokecommunity has an entire forum section. I think the main problem was the fact that they were on purposely advertising it. Pride cometh before the fall. Expand Well ROMs aren't anything new. I think it's mostly because of the fact it was highly publicized. Nintendo should know what the main problem of their business is. They don't appeal to adults besides the ones they captred while they were young. And maybe some new peeps with Fire Emblem becoming a burgeoning franchise again.
