Artists Whose Success Died in 2016

Iggy Azalea

Iggy released what is perhaps her best single this year, but it seems like the negative press took a toll on her persona. Iggy was supposed to release an album this year but it kept getting pushed back and still has not been released. Her single "Team" peaked at #42 in the US and only stayed on the chart for 8 weeks.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Many people don't even know that the duo released an album this year. The album peaked and debuted at #4 and hasn't sold more than 150,000 copies to date. Their last album sold 1.5 million. While their "Downtown" single was a moderate hit in 2015, the other singles released in 2016 didn't even chart.

Meghan Trainor

Miss Trainor is an iffy one to be on this list. Her album is selling okay for an album in 2016 and he first single did go top 10. However, as the year went on her success began to go away. Her third single "Better" didn't even chart. Compared to her last era, Meghan is definitely not as successful.

Gwen Stefani

While Gwen's album debuted at #1, the album hasn't sold much since. It hasn't even passed the 200,000 mark. I was excited for this Gwen comeback, but I think she waited too long and the GP lost interest in her. None of her singles became hits. This was probably the most upsetting one for me this year. Great album though.

Fergie

Just like Gwen, Fergie waited too long for her comeback. She released M.I.L.F. $ with an epic music video but the song failed to become a hit. The song spent 3 weeks on the chart. Her new single "Life Goes On" has failed to chart and the music video makes it clear they spent the whole budget on M.I.L.F. $. So sad for someone who had one of the biggest eras of the 00's.

Alicia Keys

Alicia's 2012 album "Girl on Fire" sold over 1 million copies. She also had a hit with the song "Girl on Fire". This year, Alicia's lead single "In Common" couldn't even chart, even with some promotion. The album didn't debut at #1, and her next single failed to chart as well. The album came out one month and half ago and still hasn't sold 100,000 copies.

JoJo

After almost a decade in a battle with her label, JoJo was finally able to release an album. This was going to be the make or break moment. Could this young star of the mid-00's be big again? The answer is no. Her album debuted at #6 and her two singles with Wiz Khalifa and Remy Ma failed to chart.

Demi Lovato

Demi's lead single for Confident was a hit, but that was in 2015. Her album debuted at #2, but in 2016 the album couldn't sell like Selena Gomez's. Her third single "Stone Cold" couldn't even chart and her new song she released this year "Body Say" only peaked at #84. Her tour with Nick Jonas was also a commercial failure, having a lot of trouble selling tickets. Two months ago Demi Lovato announced she will be stepping away from the music industry.

As much as we all want to deny it, I think we internally know who belongs on this list.

I considered it, but she has the 3rd best selling album by a female artist this year and its only been out for less than 2 months.

That's because no relevant females released albums this year (who's second best selling after Beyonce though?).

Radio Ga Ga

Y'all better stop saying Gaga belongs here. Are you f***ing serious, she's literally performing in the super bowl in 50 days, and her album did pretty well too, compared to her peers.

you guys honestly think gaga should be on this list? second highest female debut, yet another #1 album, a top 15 "hit," over 300k sales in the U.S. (and counting). Not that dire, tbh.
