So The Weeknd released Starboy :music: on November 25th and promoted the FVCK out of the album, like he was EVERYWHERE

The album did really good in the US debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 with 348,000 album-equivalent units, of which 209,000 were pure album sales. It was the third-largest debut sales week of 2016, the second-biggest week for album streams ever in the US. But Internationally the album did pretty bad, even with a smash lead single. Joanne charted in more counties and outpeaked Starboy by a mile in almost every country it charted :golfclap: without a hit single. :queenga:

We honestly have to appreciate Gaga and her achievements more and cut her some slack :kara:

Maybe because The Weeknd doesn't have a big international fanbase like Gaga does. He will without a doubt end up outselling Joanne both WW and in the US unless a miracle happens and both MR and single #3 become WW smashes.

I don't think its comparable. Gaga has stans everywhere who will buy the album 20 times over just to make sure it charts high... The Weeknd's genre doesnt tend to have fanbases who do that.

Weeknd is only more successful in America.

He does not have an international fanbase like Gaga's.

In my messy era.

Majority of people who are gonna listen to that will be young streamers who probably don't even know you can still buy music :emma: Just look at his album streams. I think Joanne has a lot more physical sales from both stans who want a real copy of it and older people who like Gaga now so that's why she's not really doing well streaming wise.
