I actually never get this "this is not radio friendly" topics. How the hell can you tell what is radio friendly or not? How something will be received by the GP? Can you see into the future? o.O

I think it's one of those songs that'll either be a huge hit or flop hard, no in between.

Also disagree with the comments saying they're saving it for a single because it hasn't been performed yet. If anything wouldn't it make more sense to perform it to see how the public reacts to it? Sadly it'll end up being a fan favorite album track.

I'm gonna copy what I put in the other DIC radio thread...

I like the song, but it is definitely in the bottom of songs I love from Joanne. It definitely has a sound similar to many of the summer hits this past year or so, but I definitely am on the side of many critics that reviewed the song (I remember one saying like it sounded like a trashed No Doubt demo or something...not that that is entirely bad...I LOVE old No Doubt)...it just feels lacking or missing something somehow. I really expected more from a Beck-Gaga collab, so hopefully they do more and better work in the future.

Unfortunately for Gaga, I have a feeling that by next Spring/Summer, that dancehall sound that was everywhere in 2015/2016 will be a dead fad again, much like that funky disco "Get Lucky" sound was the sound of summer in 2013 and disappeared by the next year.

DIC is her only one song that could do great on radios WW (especially in Europe)

But to be trully honest I don't feel like Joanne is radio friendly enough to get a hit this era.

LoveGame... Love Me Harder... The Hills... Blurred Lines... My Neck, My Back... Back That Azz Up... Drunk in Love... Like a Virgin... Erotica... Smells Like Teen Spirit... Black Beatles... Panda...

[hundreds of non-radio friendly songs that ended up on radio and received heavy radio play later]

...Dancin in Circles

Lovegame was when she was at her commercial peak, getting a lot of hype and looked traditionally attractive, making it far more likely to catch on. And those other songs are from rap/RnB artists and that genre allows for a lot more acceptability when it comes to dirty or unusual songs.

For those that are saying the metaphor is too obvious, look at Anaconda. Literally about **** sex and it did extremely well.

It did extremely well in America. The rest of the world, not so much because that type of rap doesn't really catch on internationally. It only went to #2 in the UK because we were still using the pre-order system at the time and it was on pre-order for 2 months and it also included sales of the clean version. It never would have got that high otherwise. It was more of a video hit than a commercial hit if you actually look at the sales. I think a lot of people liked it for sheer kitsch value. And as I said before, we accept dirty songs from rappers so much better because we're made to believe that this is just what rappers do. Also, rap radio stations are massive in America - it's the support of them that allows such songs to be big there (whereas globally, rap radio isn't as big a deal). Plus, rap fans are extremely loyal and religiously buy/stream/watch whatever their fave does. In the pop world, however, fans are fickle. Rap is right up there with country when it comes to fan loyalty. These acts have a headstart before they've even released an album purely because of the genre they've affiliated with.

How can Katy sing about seeing peacocks and taking out her big balloons? :neyde:

Peacock wasn't a single and Birthday was a single and failed miserably, with even its music video failing to crack the 100 million mark even after nearly 3 years, unheard of for a Katy Perry video. Seriously, it came out at the same time as GUY and despite being shorter, only having one version and being more GP friendly, it has less views and likes. And if you want more evidence of dirty pop songs failing to catch on, just look at how Britney's recent songs did on the charts. When it comes to doing a dirty pop song, you have to tread so carefully. The key to doing it successfully is being very young, very hot, shrouding your song in metaphors, being super generic and have a rap guest feature say the naughty stuff. That's why Side To Side can be a hit but anything from an older, lesser attractive (though I disagree in Gaga's case) pop artist using honest lyrics will not.

I think Diamond Heart is

I think that Dancing in Circles AND Diamond Heart have the best shot at becoming a successful radio and singles hit.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Not because of its sexual lyrics but Dancing In Circles is kind of like the Bloody Mary track of Joanne

It sounds weird and creepy.  Its like something youd listen to on halloween while whatching creepy hookers walk by or something :air:

I can't hear that at all. If anything, it sounds like Alejandro = big hit

It's no avant garde like Bloody Mary at all. It's actually very specific to a genre I can't remember the name of, which was popular in the 90's and early 2000's.

But I agree that it isn't a radio friendly song. Simply put: no radio station will want to play a song about Lady Gaga finger blasting herself in such detail.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

I honestly can't see A-yo or John Wayne being hits on the radio. The only two chances I see for Gaga on this album are Dancing in Circles and Diamond Heart. These two sound current and are about basic subjects that pop songs forever delve in and delight, while A-yo and John Wayne are both too kitschy and off genre and have no grouping with other artists. She could maybe get lucky, as Bruno Mars has with his off the cuff sound and retro hybrid trendy songs, but it's a gamble for her that she may not want to risk.

Dancing in Circles and Diamond Heart are safe zone songs for Lady Gaga, even possibly, Hey Girl, because of it being a retro grab[ thank Bruno Mars] with another popular current artist and it's fun and useful vibe in the current sjw atmosphere.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I don't hear creepy in that song personally. But I do hear sexy and seductive :usrs:
