The Surrealist 27,470
It's not that we don't understand her pain (especially some of us who suffer from depression), we all love her, it's just that she doesn't take a break to be happy for at least five seconds. She says that she would miss her goal, but Gaga is happier at home with her family to be honest. And you can see through her work that she is lacking creativity and ambition because of being unhappy. She also wants to distance herself from the "previous" Gaga because in my opinion she takes this missionary thing serious. She doesn't want to provoke people anymore or make great theatrical performances/videos, anything is good enough and trying to get happy is her main focus. She says she wants people to focus on the music this time, okay, but why is she doing something superficial like VSFS then? Or why is she creating the Joanne persona? In my opinion: I was super excited for a laid-back era with acoustics and no big spectacles, but this isn't it. This would have been a great era visually and maybe musically. (+ Mark Ronson) But the Joanne era feels more superficial and not about the music or art than any other era.
Denys 848
Stop writing this annoying long easys, aren't u tired of making excuses? Fame is dangerous but we or at least some of us still sought it. She wasn't a celeb b4 Micheal and even Britney, she couldn't have claimed that she wasn't aware of the darkness of fame 'am going too far' she made a whole EP on the darkness of fame 6 months after her debut! She came in and not only went after fame but embodied it and claimed to be a master of fame, she started whining about how hurt she was when her sales started reducing, that's after her label over exposed her but that's another topic for another day. All am saying is if ARTPOP or anything she did were very successful no interviewer will bother to ask other question except talk about how incredible the album is and she won't have to talk much except just making statements

The thing that concerns me is that she pretended she was happy for years, and then later on let it be known that she was chronically depressed and putting on an act, so as not to disappoint anyone. I worry sometimes that she is still pretending. And I feel so helpless just sitting here in a different country, unable to contact her. If this were any other friend of mine I'd be in their dm's asking how they are and if they wanna talk. I'd be giving them a hug and letting them vent off all their worries and offerring advice where I could. The way I see is is that she doesn't care so much about success anymore, because that used to mean writing music for it to be successful. Now she writes music that she loves herself, that she really wants to write, and which she believes in. And if it happens to reach success as well as being authentic to her desires, then of course she will still celebrate! I just think too much and I worry about her I'm sorry Entertainment is all about putting up a smile and getting the job done no one asked you not to go home to ur real problems, but if u want to creat fantasy for others then that's the job description and it will be like that long after we are gone

I mean if we're being honest the decline in her happiness coincides with her decline in commercial success, which to most people is because they saw her as beginning to release subpar material. In her interviews when she was anticipating and talking about ARTPOP (before she released it) she seemed VERY happy and excited about the album. It was only after the media backlash, which came after ARTPOP not selling as much as expected even though the lead single was a success, that she became depress. And it's understandable, the album that she had been thinking about for 3 years was not understood and was even ridiculed. So yeah, imo ARTPOP is some of gaga's best work, and it was not sub-par material made by gaga cause she was depressed, I see it as an amazing album in which gaga put so much of herself yet she was made fun because of it, sometimes from people that didn't even hear the album. KURUSHITOVSKA 20,451
I would be exactly like her. Just how you said that she was delusional about being on top. When we're teenagers we think "woah i just want to be 18/21, it will be amazing". And then we grow up and realise that it's awful or not that cool. I've had depression and i have anxiety, and I can completely understand her. Just imagine having to deal with a lot of people everyday thay only give a **** about you because you're famous. They just want pictures and signatures, some will make money from those signatures, you realize everything is fake, no real interactions, etc. I'd end up tired of being a mannequin and not being valued enough ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula? Ryusei 61,110
Honestly though I wonder why she got so destroyed by it when celebs like rihanna and katy perry seem quite happy with their lives despite being huge popstars with tons of fame. I haven't seen this kind of evolution with anyone else. I know about all the betrayals she's faced and her being burned out when her hip broke and all but still Musery

I feel like she's a good friend of mine and I want her to be happy. I want to have a real conversation with her so she feels like a normal person, not some idol. I want her to feel like someone cares about her. I want her to feel listened to, appreciated, and like her problems matter. I'm sure a lot of you have had that one friend who always vents all their problems to you, but who won't lend an ear or should when you need a friend yourself. It's exhausting. You feel like someone's personal counsellor. It's hard not to take on some of the weight of their problems when you are listening. Now just imagine being Gaga. She has thousands of fans (friends) who at every night of her show cry on her shoulder, tell her their darkest secrets, want her to listen to their problems. But I'm sure barely any of them listen to her because they're too frantically trying to get out everything they've wanted to say for so long to her. And she listens. She lends a shoulder to cry on. She offers advice and support. Tirelessly, every night on tour, out on the streets when she's noticed, leaving her apartment, for years straight. But she's been holed up and locked inside away from the world with body guards and noone to talk to, with all the problems in the world herself. Why does noone care about her?! It's incredibly disturbing to me how our culture puts fame up on a pedestal. My oldest sister and I were at Joanne's a few weeks ago and Natali happened to be there. As we were leaving i told her to tell Joe and Cynthia I said thank you for the meal as they were both busy. Natali noticed my new nephew in his car seat and commented on how cute he was. My sister asked if Natali would like to hold him and of course she said yes. As she was holding him and doing the whole "baby voice" routine, a lady walked behind me and said "why aren't you taking pictures? It's not everyday that lady gaga's sister holds your baby." That's so incredibly sad to me. I don't get this need to have a picture to "prove" that you met what ever celebrity. That's what pisses gaga off the most. She's not saying that she doesn't want to interact with us. She just wants to interact with us without a camera being shoved in her face. She just wants to ask "how was your day?". I've always secretly hoped to run into gaga at Joanne's because I wanna invite her to have a glass of wine and ask "how are you? No really how are you?" I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you
Katie14 4,828
I agree with everything you are saying and I think you have a really deep understanding of Gaga. I wish more people on this site could have the empathy and compassion that you have. I don't think anyone goes through the whirlwind of fame and comes out unscathed at the other end. 8 hours ago, Ryusei said: Honestly though I wonder why she got so destroyed by it when celebs like rihanna and katy perry seem quite happy with their lives despite being huge popstars with tons of fame. I haven't seen this kind of evolution with anyone else. I know about all the betrayals she's faced and her being burned out when her hip broke and all but still Some people may just be hiding how they are feeling and some people are more prone to "destruction" than others are. It has to do with past experiences, unresolved traumas, personality type, age of when someone gets famous, how fast they rise to fame, ect. Gaga has had depression and anxiety issues her whole life, she felt out of place at school and was bullied, she was raped right before skyrocketing to fame and never got the chance to recover from it. Speaking of skyrocketing, she probably had one of the fastest launches to fame in the history of famous people. She is also a very empathetic and sensitive person who gets very attached to the people around her and who understands and deeply feels for the pain of others (like the op said, this can really weigh you down over time). I remember she said on Howard Stern that the hardest thing about fame is the change in people around her. She realized that many people associated themselves with her just because she has money and connections. Thats devastating for someone like Gaga, who truly just want to live out her passion of making art and helping others through her art. Then her management started to take advantage of her and wouldn't take her seriously when she said that she wasn't feeling right. She was forced to pretend that everything was okay and had to continue touring, performing, and keep the train rolling when she was losing touch with reality and was losing her own identity. Basically, you can't really compare people because everyone has different experiences and reactions to the same experiences based on other factors. @Edge Of Venus She looks exactly the same as she did at the beginning of ARTPOP and when she was filming AHS last year. I don't think she looks unhealthy. She is probably just losing weight for the superbowl. Why do you think she is abusing drugs? We have no evidence that would warrant that thought.
