In terms of how bowie parted from Ziggy Stardust, and began to just be his own personal self, then yes.

yes, that's what i think.

currently, i'm reading a book about how celebrity is constructed. one of the chapters centers on the psychological ramifications of the process and explains that when "the veridical self" (stefani) is feeling threatened and is afraid of being annihilated by "the public face,"  (gagz) it can result in severe mental health issues. i think of joanne and her lyrics as gaga's confessional poetry with a dual purpose: not only is gagz allowing herself time to reflect on her very self/identity, but she's also making sure that the public perception of the construction that was equally created by her (artistic birth) and pop culture (cultural consciousness) can transform and translate into a more human sphere that's defined by a universal condition of existence: vulnerability.

It's fascinating reading theories like that and being a huge fan of music artists because you can look into these theories and themes and how they link with the actual lives of pop artists

yep, but you can also apply those theoretical frameworks to your very own life. i mean, it's well known that my public face is a sweet boy, but my veridical self is a bitch. :poot:

Sounds like a really interesting book. Does it talk at all about why certain celebrities form personas?

so far, i'd say no. the author's approach is more general in terms of explaining the rise of "the public face."

as an educated guess, i think persona-formation is connected to subject theory and the inflections of the self. maybe try looking up books on that subject.
