This video is an embarrassment.

The people around her should know better and tell her like it is, but she seems to be at a point where she thinks every criticism=personal attack. It's a shame because she is still a great musician and her music isn't getting the exposure it needs.

I don't think I ever said she lost her creativity - but I do think she's a bit lost as a person and as an artist. She's human, she's not going to always have a strong sense of clarity. For me personally, it's not a matter of "I don't like XYZ which means Gaga is uncreative and has lost her talent burning my Stan card forever." It's more of "XYZ in the video seems a bit confused and/or contrived and leads me to believe that she's struggling/not in the same creative space that she used to be" which I think is obviously a bit sad for some people.

She's clearly struggling with SOMETHING, and it shows.

I don't think the point of it's to be over-creative or anything, though. She's said this before in earlier interviews in this era, that she wants to really focus on the music this time. That's why, during the PI era, she wore pretty much the same thing: a crop top and jean shorts.

If she wanted to be extravagant or wanted to be "more creative", then I believe that she could easily do so. Joanne's a lot of things, but it's also suppose to be about bringing people together through the music. In her past eras, she was about the music and the visuals, and while it's understandable as to why some people are a bit sad about the lack of over-the-top visuals for Joanne, it's because it just doesn't fit the concept of the album.

Simplicity fits Joanne, and that's not to say that she can't/isn't going to wear some more "outrageous" clothing. I mean, she's wore some already, but Joanne itself isn't suppose to have this over-the-top, existential, higher-up artistic meaning, and I think she wants to do that with the visuals—keeping it at a minimum.

Someone mentioned this video on atrl. This was the type of vibe and imagery I thought the video was going to have. This video shows the vulnerability, insecurity, anger, and sadness that goes on behind the scenes in a much more creative and poignant way.

I completely agree with everything you said.

BUT the thing that this video fails to do for a lot of fans, and I guess this is a matter of opinion, is convey any genuine/real emotion. The acting seems forced, and a stripped back video in her yard would have been a lot more effective for some to connect with her feelings. I don't think many people are really complaining about her toning down her fashion/visuals for Joanne, it is a stripped back album, I just think that she could have gone about this video in a much smarter more poignant way.

That J

There's text in many different religious books such as the Bible which tell stories or warnings of those who are forced, sent or go on their own accord to the "desert", where you would eventually give into Satan or the enemy because that voice would be heard louder there.  You'd be alone with that.  It's like a spiritual graveyard.  After having one final performance, succumbing to all that sent her to the desert, true family and friends who just love her (all my Grigio Girls!) drive up like "I don't think so!  You're coming with us!!  We aren't letting you fall!"  The black and white visuals represent the distortion of her life in that she's nearly one eye shut the whole time, she's at the point where anger meets deep sadness but is to be made up yet again. When she finally opens the box and holds the cross to her chest, both eyes open, she's clearly reminded of something and her face is refreshed, she's relieved and reminded.  She's now ready to put on her hat, grab a guitar and begin her new mission.

So that's what I got out of the video and I thought it was beautiful.  If you think I'm ridiculous, that's ok. This is just my view anyway.

All I saw was emotion.  Apparently my tv is emotionally sensitive. Lol

Theory (and I haven't read through 119 pages yet so my bad if it's already out there...flop GGD member if so)  Anyway:

So MR is a continuation of PI...and all the videos this era are allegedly continuations...this got me thinking about the tracks from Joanne and I know JW is popular with ya'll and she has been performing it (with choreo, right?)...but, if it is a single, it doesn't seem to fit after MR?  So I'm wondering if JW is what happened before PI?  Wild romance, etc to only end in Illusion and MR to let go?

If any song could be a continuation (not just JW), what is to stop PI from being a continuation--like, what happened before?

A reverse Warholian Music Video Timeline Expedition?

[plus the Apple commercial with A-YO has a similar setup to MR--so maybe that is after MR--I dunno].

Promise I haven't been hanging with Mary Jane Holland! I was bored at work today and my mind wandered.

Lmao at essays, seriously? It just a f*cking video, this isn't her best (for me her worst) but just get over it and move on. Do something better with your time then defending/attacking a stupid video, seriously.

And one more thing...

After having some time to process the video, I appreciate what she's trying to do. I really like the concept of having a continuous story throughout the era, and assuming she sticks to her word about each video being a continuation of the previous, I think the final "Joanne Film" will be a very nice reflection of the album and era, even though its parts as separate entities may not seem like her best to a lot of fans. Videos aside, she hasn't let me down this era, and I've been really enjoying her aesthetic and performances. I'm hoping that the full storyline will make the videos a highlight of the era, but I'll have to wait and make that call at the end of the era. Hopefully we'll get at least two more videos to let the story that she wants to tell flourish and fully come together.

Anyway, back into hibernation from GGD I go, jammin' out to Joanne. :classy:

There's something about the video that makes me want to rewatch it again and again. I don't what it is, but it's the video is like an pill easy to swallow.

This. It's very personal to me and one of her best. It fits the lyrics of the song so smoothly. I'm about to watch it for the 11th time.
