"She did not actively seek out beats, melodies etc. They would have been delivered to her on a plate and she would just 'organise'." I mean... That's one way to try and downplay the monumental vision it takes to direct so many talented people and create a cohesive piece of work. There are not many artists out there who could 'organise' a creative piece of work like Beyonce did with Lemonade. Her creative process doesn't follow the nice one-man genius popular myth and it's different from an artist like Gaga, but it's a valid method that takes a lot of talent and vision. If you can't see that, then that's unfortunate We will have to agree to disagree because IMO her writing input is similar to that of a mashup. Talented but not without criticism. As for @Harrymy biggest criticism of AP was her sampling and pretty much copy & paste beats so let's not lumber me into the hypocrit pile. RAMROD 109,535
9 more Grammys wait for her next year, ohh she will need new cupboard. And shall she won all, it will be a new record for a female to win in one night. Also the most win by female of all time. So far Alison Krauss still leading with 27, and Beyonce at 2nd. And the first POC female to do so. Wonder how this cult site will react though? Must be quite interesting? I suppose we do, because I see an album that was universally praised by critics after it's release, that achieved great commercial success and ended up topping many lists regarding the best album of the year as well as receiving a ton of accolades. I see that Beyonce is executive producer on the album, I see that she is credited as a producer and writer on every single track. I see that, according to the credits, she contributed more to this album then anybody else. I see Sia talking about how she collages curates the entire project. Sometimes picking out lyrics or melodies that she likes and sewing it together with beats and remixing the vocals. Choosing pre-choruses she likes, versus she likes, choruses she likes and remixing them and chopping them up to create something new. I see Jack White say: "She took just sort of a sketch of a lyrical outline and turned into the most bodacious, vicious, incredible song. I don't even know what you'd classify it as—soul, rock and roll, whatever. “Don't Hurt Yourself” is incredibly intense; I’m so amazed at what she did with it." I just think it would be difficult for me not give credit to Beyonce for creating an album like Lemonade and for all the success it has had - I don't know who else is more deserving of the title of primary creator She obviously collaborated with a lot of talented writers and producers - but the vision she would have had to create such a cohesive piece of work by building on lyrical sketches and samples and melodies is really incredible and deserves respect. It just seems silly, to me, to try and downplay the creativity and work of the person who is undoubtedly the main creator of this critically acclaimed and commercially successful work by reducing their input to something 'similar to that of a mashup'. It seems unfair and such standards are not applied to any other creative field. My position isn't that she is God-like or the greatest creator ever, my position is simply that as the executive producer and main creator of this critically acclaimed and commercially successful work, and as the curator of such a talented team of writers and producers, what she achieved is impressive and she deserves respect and credit for what she achieved. It seems silly to believe she is this incredible writer and curator of music that is without criticism but that's why I said let's agree to disagree. She's faced so much criticism for years regarding her input (too lazy to cite) so it's obviously not without discussion. I respect your opinion and argument but again, I don't agree and we're going around in circles now. As for the same standard in different fields well...they're different fields? The conventions aren't the same in film. If a writer based their script on quotes upon quotes of other work it'd be plagiarism. In music it's definitely more relaxed to 'borrow'. It's a completely different ball-game. You can't compare music to film or TV. I'm heading out now but thanks for the discussion The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
