2016: The Year Meghan Trainor Lost Her Shine

To begin, this totally isn't to bash the poor girl. It's more of a factual look at what happened to her in the year of 2016. 

 

The year end charts are out, and Meghan did not chart well on many of the charts. This is of course in relation to her previous success. For Meghan, her work that charted the best this year was related to her previous era and not Thank You. Her biggest song this year was the final single of her Title era, "Like I'm Gonna Lose You", which charted at #42 on the Hot 100 year end chart. While her lead single "NO" did peak at #3, it didn't stay on the top 10 for long and ended up being only the 45th biggest song of the year. Her second single "Me Too" was the 62nd biggest song of the year. This is coming from the girl who had the 8th biggest song of 2014 and had enough longevity to continue on and be the 28th biggest song of 2015, as well. Also in 2015, her second single "Lips Are Movin" was the 22nd biggest song of 2015. In 2016, Meghan's debut album ended up selling and streaming more than her sophomore album. Title came in at #40 and Thank You was #45. In 2015 Meghan was the 7th biggest artist and this year she was the 15th (in both years she had eras going on). And to be honest her 15th place position is due to her debut album and the success of Like "I'm Gonna Lose You". Had those not been around, she would have been much lower on the chart. As a female artist, Meghan was the 2nd biggest of 2015 (after Taylor) and this year she was the 6th; after Adele, Beyonce, Rihanna, Ariana, and Selena. At the start of this era it seemed like she would be one of the top girls, at least above Ariana and Selena. It's gotta be hard to see ur success fading, and to not even have your latest single chart. But i wish the girl the best and hey, there's always next era.

I know she has a handful of medium-sized hits but until this article, I only remembered AATB. Guess we should be thankful Gaga is still a bit relevant in her 8th year in the industry

I meant different for a white girl.  Like Iggy doing rap and Meghan doing doo-wop and R&B.  Also Gaga lasted a lot longer than them.

"Me Too" was so annoying.  I guess people just got bored of her self-loving trademark, after doing it on and on it came off as narcissistic and full of herself.
