POPULARITY.

That's why I'm glad Gaga isn't out writing music to solely win awards or recognition. She just wants to create and share music (and make coins on it as well )

Award winning music is good, so I don't know really what you were going for here.

I don't think she doesn't care but it's not her main purpose is what I meant.

She sure walks a red carpet like she cares about the award she is nominated for. Otherswise why even go.

Not all award winning music is bad but a lot of the awards have to do with popularity.

I'm sorry but Purpose (although an enjoyable album) is not AOTY material. If it was by a lesser known artist, it would never have been nominated.

Again I'm saying it's not her sole purpose. Yes, she is happy to win awards (I think everyone is) but she doesn't write music thinking about winning an award.

It's depends on the award. The Grammy's for example is voted by its members just like the Oscars. So lesser known artists get overlooked unless there is a good effort by the record company or movie studio to have it recognized by Grammy or aacademy members. It's all politics. That's why the Beck upset was so weird. His record company must have campaigned hard to have his album heard by Grammy members. In the end it's all politics.

That's what I originally meant, I guess.

Hmm I'd love to know the reasoning behind this. If their AMAs acceptance speech is anything to go by, they don't really care for accolades.

Probably because it was released as a single in april 2015 but then on their album which came out in in Grammy time frame?

My guess.

I get that, but Gaga used to be award winning and she put out great, popular music. You make it seem like we've gained something now that she's not getting hits.

Didn't they change the rules for bands or artists who release music at a certain period but it doesn't really catch in until later. They did this because of the best new artist category. Many new artists were missing out on the best new artist nomination because they didn't get a lot of attention until their second album or single. Maybe it has to do with another new rule kinda like  this?

That's why Gaga didn't get a nomination as Best New Artist

Cause it was a sleeper hit and didn't end up being a hit till a lot later. (Around Nov/Dec 2015) but would that be enough to change the eligibility? (TOP is overrated and sell outs these days so who cares.)

How are they sell outs?

it does not matter when the song is released, it only cares when the song is submitted to the academy
