the fact that Gaga knows how I feel and we are connected in some way gives me so much hope but also makes me so sad , I just wish I could have a conversation with her and tell her how I feel and tell her how big of a part she is in my life , she's the only thing that's made me worth living for .

People always tease my best friend Mandy because she sends gaga a happy Mother's Day card every year. I always end up signing it too. When people ask "why", I always say "until you've felt unloved, you don't know what it's like to have someone who loves you for who you are with every cell in her body. She's the closest thing I've had to a mom." Which FYI I know gaga melts every time she gets those cards lol

I thought I remembered her saying that she didn't tell anyone about the pain she was in because she didn't want to have to cancel the tour. Does anyone remember what she said?

Anyway, she is so brave for sharing her experiences. Im glad she brought to light that when people don't treat you with respect, dignity, or take you seriously, that can be extremely damaging. You don't have to go through one specific severe physical or emotional trauma to get PTSD. 

I imagine it was a bit of both. She probably stopped telling people when she realised they weren't going to take her seriously!

I thought so, too. But at the same time, it's also fairly likely that she mentioned it at one point early on, was brushed off, and thus didn't mention it to anybody afterward, and started dealing with the pain via drugs.

Im confused. She said she experiences dissociation but the brain changes that she is describing is associated with being hyperaroused, the opposite of dissociation. Can someone help me understand?

"Our first study involved 9 patients with sexual abuse– or motor vehicle accident–related PTSD and 9 controls who had a history of sexual abuse or motor vehicle accidents but in whom PTSD never developed. Figure 1demonstrates that compared with controls, patients who relived their traumatic experience and had a hyperaroused response to the traumatic script exhibited significantly less activation in the rostral ACC and medial prefrontal cortex as well as in the thalamus and occipital cortices.11 Lower levels of ACC activation and medial prefrontal activation are consistent with previous PET studies of sexual abuse and combat-related PTSD.10,17,22 These brain activation patterns differ strikingly from those observed in a second study of 7 patients who dissociated in response to the traumatic script and of 10 trauma-exposed controls.12 Figure 2 shows that these dissociative patients had higher levels of brain activation in the rostral ACC and dorsal ACC, medial prefrontal cortex, and areas in the superior and middle temporal cortices.

The most remarkable findings in these 2 studies are the opposite patterns of brain activation. The more typical reexperiencing/hyperaroused group exhibited abnormally low activation in the medial anterior brain regions that are implicated in arousal modulation and emotion regulation more generally (ACC and medial prefrontal cortex), while the dissociative group exhibited abnormally high activation in these regions."

She's a kind, loving, smart, and compassionate lady, and it breaks my heart to know that she's gone through so much, and has suffered through so much, only to keep a smile on her face and try to power through it.

I really just want to give her a big hug right now; after everything she's done for us, I think we need to do something for her, and spread love, kindness, and positivity: something that she's preached so much about. 

EDIT - I was curious about this, and just looked up a bit about Gaga's experience with PTSD in her recent interview, and the comments are just so f*cking disgusting. I know I shouldn't take them seriously, but I'd be saying if it was Gaga or if it was just anyone else. 

The fact that some people are just shoving this aside and just saying that she's "faking it" or that she's just "doing it for attention" really don't have any idea what she's been through and what it means to have PTSD. Absolutely disgusting.

Well, them, and just people in general. People just think because she's famous, and because she's a popstar, that she's suddenly immune to everything.

We're taught that money doesn't buy happiness, then in that case, why do people feel the need to criticize someone just because they're famous or are in a higher position? It's stupid and downright disrespectful. 

I just hope that one day Gaga's message of love, compassion, and empathy will lead us into a more non-judgmental future.

I'm crying so hard, I feel terrible for all the times that I asked for a video, new music, new anything. I sort of get why we never got the dwuw video now. I hope she feels better and is healthy. I love her so much.

I feel for her, I really do. Nothing against it, but fame is strange. Can you imagine people constantly telling you that they love you, and try touching you, but you don't technically know them? It's a strange concept. To me, she's so gracious to fans! The reality is odd, because this wasn't built into the human psyche to be "worshipped" like this. I can totally understand why she wants to be normal, can you blame her? I'd imagine most famous people must suffer some mental illness after dealing with the effects for awhile. They really are only people with a cool job. It's confusing the worship levels that some people put on them. She's brave for this. I hope this teaches society something.
