Shocking Grammy snubs

Choices were really random this year, much more so than usual. A lot of choices I'd never heard of either. But snubs are so predictable at this point that I'm not even shocked. But it does astound me how Justin has been accepted by the academy so much recently despite never being a Grammy darling previously. He sold great back in the day, so it's not like his current popularity is the reason why he's getting nominated when he wasn't before. His music has hardly improved enough to warrant anything.

Led Zeppelin has never even won a Grammy, terrible award show tbh. I find every year its like they have no clue what music was actually released and are just picking at random :saladga:

I've said for a while now that the nominations appear to be based on what's the most popular but the actual winners are decided on artistic merit. I remember reading an article all about how the nominations are decided and how it was basically confirmed that a lot of the voters just go for the one they've heard of, which is especially true for not-so-popular genres. You'd struggle to hear of any name you recognise there, so if you see a name you do, go for it. There have been rumours for years that the majority of voters don't even listen to all the albums that are nominated, just picking the one that they listened to, good or bad. Membership is for life, so there's a lot of much older voters who really aren't up to speed with modern music, so if someone young is very popular, they'll have heard of them and think: "If the public like them, they must be good, so I'll just go for them because I sure haven't heard of any of the other names so don't have a verdict on how good they are." There are younger ones coming up to replace the ones who are dying off but I still don't know if it's making much of a dent, judging by the weird selection we continue to get that represent someone throwing darts at a dartboard of song covers blindfolded.

I'm surprised many users on here were shocked by his nominations. I mean Baby and Love Yourself, don't sound like the same artist. His music has improved greatly. I'm a casual Justin Bieber fan at best, but production on Purpose is very great and his vocals have gotten better. He's hardly the most overrated Artist nominated this year, especially when it comes to AOTY.

Of course he is. Blackstar and A Moon Shaped Pool not getting an AOTY nomination is sacrilege, especially when Drake, Adele, and specially Justin Bieber got one. Also, Vulnicura by Bjork. The Grammys are ****.

Yeah they are ****. Can't say anything about those 3 albums, because I haven't listened to them. Though Vulnicura was eligible for this year's Grammys, not 2017. But again, out of everything that got nominated this year, especially in the AOTY, Purpose/Justin Bieber is far from being the most overrated.

The choices seemed like they looked at the charts for 5 minutes

There's some good ones and the rest are misc and odd choices for something prestigious

It's not the VMAs :green:

Walk down the runway but don't puke, it's okay. You just had 10 donuts today. Without frosting.

Ariana deserved more. Let Me Love You ft. Lil Wayne could've should've been submitted for Best duo/group.

Shawn deserved SOMETHING. Even a minuscule award like music video.

ANTi deserved an AOTY award over Purpose and Views

I can't really stand the Grammy's anymore. Not only have the performances and themes been a little lackluster, inbetween the hosts making awful banter and jokes they try to shove every charity and good will humanity program into your face.

I'm a good person, but I honestly cannot watch the grammy's because i kind of get sick of all the charity crap that's thrown in.

True, but it becomes more and more of a joke every year.

One thing that has always annoyed me about the Grammys (which I've been keeping up with since Madonna's Ray of Light) is that there always seems to be a few huge random snubs every year -- and more than usual in recent years.

When will people learn that the Grammys are nothing more than rich people praising rich people :awkney:

Don't take them too seriously.

Well, Perfect Illusion should've snagged a nomination. Also, The 1975. Like wtf, their album was one of my favorites. Also, why are The Chainsmokers and Chance the Rapper considered "new" artists? At least TØP got 5 nominations. The ones for Stressed Out don't make sense though, that song was released in 2015. Messy, messy.
