Up to 40 feared dead in Oakland fire

At least nine people died when a fire tore through a warehouse in Northern California during a rave party and officials fear the death toll from the tragedy could rise to 40.

So far, only four bodies have been recovered from the site, which is not considered a "crime scene." 

KTVU reported that 25 people are unaccounted for.

Firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire at the warehouse in Oakland around 11:30 p.m. local time Friday. They fought the fire for hours before putting it out.

Horrible... As weird as it might sound. I find it comforting that it was a rave. Makes the odds of them being under an influence of some sorts bigger. 

 

Death through burning/smoke is some of the most horrible ways to go (the first one even having the reputation as being the most painful)

This is truly awful and so close to my heart. I've gone to raves and parties in Oakland for many years and I can only imagine how horrific this must have been. Someone my sister knows and their girlfriend are among the unnaccounted for.

This place was a block away from my house. It's a really sad thing and I pray for the people who were stuck there as well as for their families dealing with this tragedy now
