Trump and his ideas are like those annoying mosquitos that strike when you turn off the lights and that suddenly disappear when the lights are on. He's the type of mosquito that knows when to be annoying, knows what to do (in a bad way) and you just can't swat them...

even some electric cars contain half gas and half electric fuel.

Don't all of them? I was under the impression that electric cars had gasoline as a reserve in case the charge runs out on the road

Anyway, if people are worried about climate change, electric cars aren't the first step to fixing our emissions issue. You charge that car in a home that gets its electricity from a power plant that more than likely uses fossil fuels to create electricity :emma: we have to tackle our energy grid first 'cause that's where the lion's share of air pollution comes from. It also wouldn't hurt to start installing solar panels on your own houses. That way you produce your own clean energy and any excess can be sold to the electric companies which means less power they need to generate by dirty means and some cash in your pocket :awesome:

I do agree, the next best thing other than going completely green is to be independently fueled. Though that still has its drawbacks 'cause Trump wants to strike down all the regulations that protect the environment and consumers so it's really a lose-lose...but what else could you expect? Fossil fuels are outdated and dirty and so is Trump and his plans :emma:

In Trump's words, he's "open to it" when it comes to protecting the environment. This isn't a time to give up, this is a time to fight as hard as we can and hope we can find something to save in the rubble when 2020 comes.

Oh, and sorry if it seems like I can barely string together a sentence. It's been a long day and writing coherently is always the first thing to go

I really agree with a lot of your main points! I am happy to see you think energy independence is good for right now!

My main point is we just can't expect everyone to switch to a cleaner source. People own cars that run on gas. Electric Cars failed, I have never seen one, maybe one or two in my lifetime. Instead of giving these countries money which kill/abuse women and gays, we need to employ more Americans and open the pipeline so we can make our own gas and stop giving these horrible countries money. As I stated, we don't live in this Dreamworld, people go on airplanes, ride gas cars, and don't want expensive ugly solar panels on their property. I would love to have solar panels but they are way to expensive and don't look nice on my roof. I also would love to switch to a cleaner car but they are expensive and I am satisfied with my gas run car. We need to be realistic, open the pipeline, become gas independent, create American jobs, and look for cleaner fuel sources.

So you think it is possible for EVERY single person to buy a new car and switch their fuel source. Electric Cars came out and have been barely bought. We don't live in this clean dream world. We should continue looking for better fuel sources but it is unrealistic to have this new fuel source for everyone.

Sorry for the double quote

I believe @Economy or someone else made a thread about electric car sales having a surge recently :yay:

We don't have to look for alternative fuels. We have plenty, it's just a matter of integrating them and making them viable for the common man. I think the most promising thing is the Chinese research and development of solar panels. They've cut the cost of producing the panels by insane amounts and they're continuing to make them cheaper to make, which means they'll be cheaper to buy.

Don't forget about wind power, hydroelectric, and geothermal :awesome:

Personally, I think we should mine the Moon. It's rich in helium-3 and I remember reading a few years ago that if we filled one space shuttle's cargo bay (60ft by 15ft, I forget the other dimension), we could power the entire United States for a year with absolutely no pollution :nick: of course, getting to the moon and actually mining it is harder to do than to say but it's got to be better than slowly poisoning our planet :toofunny:

Ugh, just what the Native race needs, but I'm not really surprised, I've always known he had a hand in that messy pipeline project.

Let me make this clear, if you're not Native American or live in the regions where this monstrosity is taking place, do not try to come for the protestors or say that protesting this pipeline is stupid because it's not your home, these are not your ancestors' graves being dug up, this is not your water supply being threatened.

Yes

That's the way this works.

They want to build it, we say no.
They start to build it, we protest.
They take legal action, we do the same.
The corporation wins, usually through sleazy means like bribes or crooked politicians.
The hashtags start popping up on Twitter and Facebook for both sides.
More people oppose it than support it.
They build it anyway.
We stay pissed for about a month then we move on.

Rinse and repeat until we all die :nails:

Our society can be so mundane and disappointingly predictable in all of its complacency, corruption, greed, and sheer stupidity :oprah: Personally, I'm pretty fed up with it. #GiantMeteor2016. We need a clean slate to start over 'cause we f*cked it all up :rip:

Spoiler

Mini rant, my apologies.

I'm against any pipeline by principle but I do support the idea of being independent and sorting out our economic issues so we can better address the environmental ones. It's the whole silver lining thing I guess :laughga:

This pipeline makes too much sense politically and economically.

Environmentalists have good points and it makes perfect sense to reduce emissions that damage the atmosphere.

But opposing any and all oil project completely gives the oil market control over to religious fanatical entities.... and yes I mean the Saudi's too, since they have the most money right now they fund the most terrorists ...

The craziest Canadians use the word 'aye' and drink too much Labbatts....

Much of the pipe line already exists, and the gov. (Obama) is blocking the border sections because those segments need its approval.

The environmental damage is gonna occur regardless of  where the oil is produced and until demand can be brought under control, (alternative energy) getting oil from Canada is much more palatable than radical religious parts of the world.

OPEC countries will cheat and the deal won't last: trader

Over all the western economies are modifying their energy policies and oil will eventually only be a minor play on the global economy.

Instead of buying oil from foreign middle eastern countries that abuse women and LGBT Community, I see no reason why it would be bad to do it here instead. Employ more Americans!

I agree with the energy independence and employment aspect of this pipeline.

The concern for me is the environmental aspect and the fact that Native Americans are being impacted and treated very harshly in their protest.

As long as there are strict environmental regulations put in place, this pipeline should be a success.

However I'd like if the Trump administration would reconsider their anti-climate change stance and invest in clean energy research and expansion. But that looks like it won't happen, unfortunately.

I've always been an advocate for energy independence but taking a clear position on this issue is a bit frustrating. There are times when I oppose it completely but then again it makes sense economically.

I'm still confused as to why the native americans are protesting the pipeline tho cuz its not in there land. Is there something I'm missing?

The pipeline could threaten their water sources.

Plus Natives are more in touch with nature and are more environmentalists than Western people.

Their philosophies on life are different in some aspects.

I agree. Im not by any means against green investments on the contrary. In fact im super exited about the recent surge in EVs. Cleaner air is good for everyone

But trying to stop every major project is economic suicide. Im not here for another depression

We still need oil for many things for now and Im not here for Canadian and US oil to fall because of blocked projects to benefit the Middle East

No thankyou :crossed:

Some of the propose pipeline will go thru ancient tribal lands.  I think the native population has a legit protest,  but the bigger picture weighs more on this imo.
