She needs to go back to her rock roots. I can't see her being taken seriously if she continues to do standard pop or venture into genres like hip hop and edm...

I actually like Katy's music, call it what you will, yeah it's bubblegum pop, but hey, the world needs bubblegum pop, it's a staple.

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

I love katy's albums, but I hope KP4 will be less safe and more experimental, I want to see a real evolution music wise, I know Roar was a huge hit but at the same time is like, the most blandest song ever. She can do so much better imho. Excited for new music from her anyway :)

It better be in the same vein as Rise and Witness. Both are great and different for Katy Puppy.

Witness is the best song of her discography, it's just an unreleased track.

I liked what she had to say here! I hope this general mentality and awareness influences her next album.

I hope she'll showcase a more mature sound. She showed serious growth with Rise and I want that to continue. It'll be totally cringey if she's still making bubblegum pop at 31 and it won't help her sales either. Female artists need to show real skill in their music in their 30's or else they don't stand a chance of continued success. But at the same time, Katy's in a catch 22 situation. Her ballads have never been as successful as her upbeat pop tunes (Thinking Of You, Unconditionally and Rise were outright failures at that), so a more mature direction might be a bad news for sales. But at the same time, her upbeat pop sound has fallen out of favour recently, with 2 of her classic bubblegum singles from Prism failing to capture the public's attention. Too mature - public aren't here for it and never were, too immature - the public were here for it once, but not anymore. I don't know where her career is going to go from here because of this problem. She's caught between a rock and a hard place. But in a sense, that's why it's a better time than ever to be mature and just make the music that's in her heart. Because either way, she won't have the success she had before. As her friend, Kacey Musgraves sang: "You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't so you might just as well do whatever you want." That comes from a song Kacey originally offered to Katy, actually!

What if Her Career is just a slower version of Gaga's career.

One of the Boys is the Fame, nice fun boppy

Teenage Dream and Prism are the Fame Monster (bc Prism was her dark era lol) and her most successful Era with the most acclaim

and the next album will be her Born This Way Era since it will be more about social change (it'll probably be a more watered down and more pop version of BTW but still)

however since she didn't do this process within 3 years I don't think she'll get overexposed like Gaga during BTW so her ARTPOP era may do well and she'll never flop. I mean good for her, but Gags get back with the bops I like "friendly" competition where Katy and Gaga were equal commercially in 2010/2011

Most people, myself included believe Prism to be her BTW. Its lead single was a massive hit, its second single under-performed, its third single was a big hit, its fourth and fifth singles under-performed (her final single even matched MTN's peak until the last week where she jumped 2 places). The album sold a lot, but not as much as her peak. The tour visited the whole world, had some stadium dates and pulled in a lot of money. There was controversy during the era.

So, all this points to this being her AP era. She's gone through the overexposure thing like Gaga and she's peaked with her singles power, album power and touring power. It's time for a downfall. I've seen the pattern often enough now to recognise it coming. And remember that she's had a bigger gap between albums than Gaga did. By the time she releases it, it might be nearly 3.5 years since Prism, which can mean a lot of people might have moved on from her. Big gaps are risky when you're a very commercial artist - unless you can put out albums consistently every 2 years or less, you tend to dip massively in popularity.
