Honest question, why do most of you think DH would've made a good lead single?

Personally I find it more radio friendly, but I do prefer PI as a song

It's catchy, fun, has relatable lyrics, etc. The booming chorus is everything TBH.

Bette Davis

It would have flopped just as hard as PI. The only songs that had a chance of doing well commercially as lead single on the radio and with the gp were Dancin' in Circles and A-Yo.

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

What's radio friendly? :oprah: I've seen it tossed around here a lot. Is that like a Verse - Chorus - Verse - Chorus type song? Or does it mean songs like that are on the radio?

Even though DH is very different to all the chart toppers on the radio, it's still much closer to them then PI is. Also a lot of the GP called PI a rock song and for this reason shunned it right away, while with DH they wouldn't be able to do that

Radio friendly means something that the radio stations would be willing to play due to the catchy nature of the song. Diamond Heart can be seen that way

But what if the GP just doesn't want rock at the moment, and not that they shunned the Not-Rock-Single labeled as rock?

Who's being salty :oprah: We're just having a good time fantasizing about pop eras sis :oprah:

Anyways, I disagree. Some people were turned off immediately by PI but DH is pretty much universally enjoyed by fans and the GP. I think in terms of promo it would've been different as well. I low key think Gaga didn't promote PI as much because of her label picking it and she not liking their decision :laughga: It's not a surprise that she doesn't always get along with stuff her label does. DIC could've been a lead but I honestly think it would've damaged the albums sales because it literally sounds very different from the rest of the tracks moreso than PI. I think A-YO could've been the lead as well

I'm not being salty though :oprah: Being a realist is not being salty :oprah: Diamond Heart does not have that kinesthetic energy about it that would make it a great lead :oprah: Let's be honest, if you were to listen to Diamond Heart on iHeart Radio the day it premiered and received the same reaction that many felt with Perfect Illusion, you would be bopping hardcore to Perfect Illusion when it leaked and this thread would be about what if Perfect Illusion was the lead :oprah: If you look at all of Gaga's leads for her main albums and she ended up releasing Diamond Heart as the Joanne lead, it would be very, very underwhelming and would flop harder than Perfect Illusion while simultaneously hurting album sales :oprah: Sure fans and the GP enjoy it but it is a deep cut at best, not single material at all unless Gaga wanted to pull a Marina :oprah: And about Dancin in Circles, that's the most single-worthy song on Joanne that follows current trends in pop music and it is catchy as hell :oprah: It wouldn't matter if the song was different from the rest of the album because everyone would still be bopping hard from Diamond Heart to Million Reasons, then skip Sinner's Prayer, and bop some more until Angel Down or Angel Down (Work Tape) depending on your version :oprah: Idealistic optimism is the fault of many individuals :oprah: Joanne has shown, or at least is trying to show, us that it is better to expect either a worse or no outcome from something in the area and to reap in the well-deserved benefits of a surprisingly positive turn of events :oprah: Joanne has also shown us to expect the unexpected and to not expect so much of Gaga :oprah: Before you say I'm being salty, I'll have you know that I'm just being plain petty that you cannot see that Diamond Heart is a terrible choice for a lead single and yet you try to make alternate scenarios and hypotheticals that would make it work :oprah: Gaga's label would have treated Diamond Heart very similarly to Perfect Illusion in terms of promo :oprah: The label was just overly confident that they didn't need a lot of promo to promote the lead single of one of their biggest artists and that it would at least be top 10 with the lack of promo so that they could work on the second single :oprah: Good night, I'm off to bed, done with this, but I'll still remain petty as the dickens :oprah:

i just imagine the video starts with with a close up of diamond chains twisting in slo-mo on her stripper bikini bottom, her pole dancing as it zooms out.

If every song on Joanne were on the same level as Diamond Heart, we'd be having very different conversations right now. DH > JW, MR > the rest of Joanne

It's amazing, does not have cringey lyrics like DIC, and has one of Gaga's best choruses to date. I hope it's the next single.

Irrelevant

IMO PI was a fine lead, and then A-yo should have been second and then MR.

DH should have been a promo single...

Maybe she wants to "hype" things up first and then release it as 3rd single for the SB in late january. That's my only wish for this era

I don't agree! PI was and is still the perfect lead material, I don't know about majority of u but to me it still has the elements of some of Gagas hits so the label went for the obvious choice. The only thing PI lacked was a huge debut platform and the vmas could have worked just fine for a comeback to top ten. 'Don't say beyonce would have outshines here because Gaga can clearly hold her own'
