It is her - but what she's saying is that it does not engulf her whole being, that Gaga is NOT the only thing that is her. Her wigs and her clothes have reflected her identity, but it has become a burden to her in a sense that the fans have caged her inside that identity. That is very much expressed with how some of the fans on here have reacted when she "toned it down" for Joanne, and is one of the main reasons why we are having this discussion right now. I do not understand how people fail to understand this simple concept, truth of being a human being. I mean we can sit here and argue about who she really is all day long, but at the end of the day she'll tell us something different with each era. Yeah, but if anything that's her own fault. The moment she stepped into the scene it was all about crazy costumes, wigs, theatrical performances etc.
TerrenceV2 2,001
I love Gaga but every era feels like a tragedy, even C2C. Every era seems like the happy aftermath of the previous era and after a while everything ends up being sad.. I know Gaga has feelings and she evolves but her life isn't that bad, there's people with REAL life struggles out there and its been a tradition to cry it out on TV since 2011. I feel bad for her though I think most of it may be because of her commercial decline and pressure that comes with it and this is her way of coping with that. playground love - josef salvat
REALITY 76,658
1:25-1:45 & 4:09-4:22 Obviously the whole entire interview was spectacular, but I think these parts are really pivotal. She's basically said to let go of each era, because she's always going to grow up and evolve: that's just the kind of artist she is. Each era beforehand was still her, but as time goes on, she's going to change, it's just a part of life. 𝔊𝔬𝔬𝔡𝔟𝔶𝔢, ℑ'𝔩𝔩 𝔰𝔢𝔢 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔦𝔫 𝔪𝔶 𝔡𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔪𝔰
Mikey Monster 1,561
What an amazing interview this is just Gaga showing us a different side. Gaga didn't go anywhere, and the beginning of her career wasn't a lie she is just explaining the reality of a human being who's an artist, and how she's learning about herself through life, it's beautiful and more real than ever. ❤️❤️❤️ This could also be her explaining herself more so in the future if she ever brought the Crazyga back one day more people not just her fans will understand her ALOT more and still love her! ❤️❤️❤️ Mikey McCampbell

She liked the art, the theatrics, the look, etc. but felt burdened by how she had to give it ALL the time. I actually don't see why this is so difficult for people to understand. It's not WHAT she was doing that was insincere, it was HOW much she had to do it. She felt she had to do it BOTH when she wanted to (genuine, who she is, Gaga=Stefani) AND when she didn't want to (making it up, persona, not her real self). It's like when you pretend to be nice to someone you hate. Faking a smile doesn't mean all your other smiles are fake too - it means in THOSE moments, where you're pretending to have fun with someone when you're not, you're not being honest. But that doesn't necessarily make you a dishonest person or mean that your honesty and kindness with other people was faked or a "persona." Quoting for emphasis! 👆🏼 Re-read it little meltdowners. Thank you Kayla. FreePalestine

Still, every era she talks about how she overcame those things and how she got stronger, yet something sufferable and new happens to her months later. Still I don't mean bad to her, it's just kinda tiring. playground love - josef salvat
