No disrespect, but I find this "extends his power to forgive" so weird. He's just human. If you believe in God, it should be between you and Him. And asking forgiveness for whatever is sin in your religion, should be only asked from Him, directly imo.

Classic Protestant responses. Martin Luther would be proud!

He didn't say abortion is fine. He still thinks it is bad, but it can be forgiven. :smh:

:hor:But he can always say being gay is fine :hor::hor::poot:

He already said that if a gay wants to be a Christian and has faith, but stay true to him/herself, then "who am I to judge them?"

so basically Christian gays are allowed and won't be discriminated.

Also I don't really get the concept of "forgiving" wether its from God or the priests. I mean I need to stand by my actions. They also say gay sex can be forgiving, but tbh I'm proud to be gay :sis:

Well, he can, but what would it change?

So I can use that when I come out to my mom  :lolly:

Spoiler

Probably nothing will change though

Spoiler

But I don't get how he decides if god forgives certain people  and what not

He has the power to change a bunch of peoples opinions on things, if he were to say that about homosexuality it would lead many catholic countries to be way more progressive regarding homosexuality as a majority of their population would be catholic. Overall leading to less hate crimes and more acceptance.

So yeahhh whether you like it or not the pope has a lot of influence, and right now he is using it to move the catholic church forward.

Yes there are a lot of things wrong with the church but I think we should acknowledge the fact that a pope is pushing it in the right direction, however small the impact may be, instead of pulling it back into the dark ages like some politicians are doing with countries.

You may not agree with the system but at least respect the fact that for the first time in the history of the catholic church it is moving in the right direction, he was the first pope to ever say that gays could go to heaven.

this article shows a lot of the progress he has made into mending relations inbetween the church and the LGBTQ community

So in conclusion, yes there are problems but give him credit where credit is due

All this said by a liberal catholic

My mom and dad grew up Catholic, and they're pretty conservative—my mom especially is like a hardcore Catholic—and they thought it was bit weird to have confessions and sit face-to-face with a priest or someone else when instead you could just be talking to God.

My religious ed. teacher hold me though that's suppose to represent you confessing your sins to the people because you need to ask for forgiveness from the people and God, which honestly, I thought was just weird.
