Gagaloo911 12,959
Gaga's performance was everything I expected it to be and more. The staging and overall aesthetic were unexpected and beautiful and her vocals were on point. Even if you don't care for them, you can't say she isn't serving visuals this era! It was a nice change from her previous performances on this show.
giskardsb 12,565
Gaga helped usher back in theatrics into pop in her early years, no denying that, and her theatrics always have purpose. However, now you get pathetic attempts like that 5H performance with tons of staging and props that are disconnected from the song and add nothing to the content except to be there. The fact is that the impact of theatrics have been diluted post VMA 2009 to the point where its ineffective and distracting, even in a case like Gaga where she would have meaning behind it. This MR performance was perfect the way it was and a bunch of stuff going on around the performance would have detracted rather than added, and people would be talking about that stuff and not the song. BlaqJezus 1,027
I watched everything so far, and I like many of the artists that played...Gaga was more memorable than they were. No stunning vocals from anyone else, 5th Harmony lipsynced and the stage was too much for their ability to fill it, Bieber...didn't even sing (or dance), John Legend was okay but the song was nothing special, Bruno did the same performance he has been doing for the past 3 years, Nicki and Ariana had a stage that looked like a bad jungle prom and the coverage of it was boring, just...do any of these people rehearse at all? I think she is well proving, that even now, you can stand out with just great vocals and a well thought out and rehearsed staging. This was one of my favorite of this era for sure, and I have nothing but high hopes for the future. I will say that this year, the AMAs need some work, because even though I remember the last one Gaga was at the most, there were at least a couple other decent performances to give Gaga something to compete with. Swando 300
Visually stunning performace. I still need to get used to the fact that Gaga had Kermit the Frog as a voice coach for Joanne. But other than that, i think she sounded as good as ever.
BlaqJezus 1,027
Oh shoot, I forgot to say: Thank you to The Chainsmokers for lip-syncing, it made you mildly more bearable to watch.

I literally wrote at the end of that paragraph about how it was just a joke and that the comparison isn't fair because Gaga has always presented herself as a theatrical, avant garde fashion icon while Sting has never done that. When you quoted me after I straight out told you, again, that I didn't care if you liked the performance or not and said your reasons for not liking the performance make complete sense. I don't know why you are trying to act victimised, but it's not fair. 18 minutes ago, GunninMan said: I literally CANNOT with some of y'all. How do you call yourself a fan if all you ****ing do is drag Gaga and talk **** about her just because you don't like her? You do not need to like everything she does, but to attack her for her look, her music ability, and lack of shock factor is honestly disgusting. GET OVER IT, the crazy Gaga is dormant right now, she even said so herself NUMEROUS times, so why do y'all STILL BRING IT UP?! It ain't happening. Idk what its gonna take to get that through your thick ass skulls. Be respectful or get the hell off of a Gaga FAN site, I am so done with you people proclaiming you are fans, and then turning around and saying nasty **** about her on the daily. You're not a fan, you're a hater. That post by @GunninMan is one of several of posts in this thread which is directed at me and anyone who has a dissenting opinion. Perhaps as a Moderator you should focus you're attention addressing people like him, people who are name calling and shutting down conversations, rather than spending your time telling someone who has had their opinions hostilely dismissed that they are "acting like a victim." Don't paint me as an equal to them Report posts like that and they will be dealt with - don't lash out at me for making a joke when I've continuously painted opinions and criticisms like the ones you hold as fair, legitimate and understandable. I'm not the one hostilely dismissing you, I'm not the one calling you names or shutting down conversation. Don't paint me with the same brush, don't accuse me of personally attacking you. That's unfair and you know it. You quoted me and accused me of personally attacking you. Don't criticise me for defending myself.

Awww thanks for using my opinion to poorly attempting displaying your point of view. Clearly you did not read the post entirely. I don't give a damn if you don't like the performance, I said it bothers me when people bash her, make fun of her, and talk **** about her because they don't like something she does, and then call themselves a fan of hers. I didn't read your post about your opinion because frankly I don't give a ****. If you feel lumped in with what I said then that is a problem for you to deal with, but if you were respectful in your views and just simply didn't like the performance, thats totally fine with me! And next time, be able to defend yourself without having to use another person's post to beef up your argument, cuz it didn't work.

Do you always have to be contrary to everything? Or just most of the time to everything? Gun's post had a point, but he just isn't used to all the Gaga "fans" that are just pop stans who latched on to Gaga, and seem to miss almost everything integral part of what makes her a person and an artist to admire... I don't think you're a victim, I just think you have a lot of time on your hands, and like to be the counter-point to everything, even when it makes little to no sense.
