But it doesn't mean she can't create her next album with fame in mind. Even if she's on a decline, Gaga has not left the "successful" range yet. (1) With little promo, she sold well. (2) The GP now sees her as a "woman" instead of an alien. (3) And next year, she will do a performance in front of more than 100,000,000 people. Joanne was made for the SB to be promoted by the SB. She claims to be putting in 110%, but I'm not seeing anything like her past eras. She's gotten too comfortable doing nothing, and it's showing. YES! P.S. - I made a similar thread but a lot of fans seem to think we either worship this album being made like it's a gift from the Gaga heavens to us. I don't like this era either because it feels stale and stripped of everything Gaga. Trust and believe y'all, 2009 Gaga would have found a way to make 'stripped down' look good, exciting, and possibly trendy. What we're currently presented with, however, is like unseasoned chicken. The album is good, but how she's handling this era is not helping making it exciting.
mattbri 1,369
I totally understand you. You have every right to feel that way. However, I do not agree with you. Gaga has always been unpredictable and literally doing what she wants (something I really admire as an artist myself). She literally doesn't care, she is fearless - and that's a good thing because I do not like singers who produce the same song over and over again. Plus Joanne brought a huge amount of fans that, like my father, love the music but is not interested in Youtube views, Spotify etc. They are not little monsters, but Joanne assured them that Gaga is truly the greatest musician of our time. And yes, it is brilliant in its own right (and I am happy and grateful we have it), but this whole era is starting to leave me feeling cold and disinterested. And somewhat... betrayed. After the GP and the media's trashing on the ARTPOP era--whatever Gaga served after will NEVER be good enough to turn her around completely back to the top of the game. A sacrificial lamb had to be done. ARTPOP was trashed for being too messy and incoherent--anything vaguely 50% EDM would not have helped Gaga especially when the trend Joanne (then LG5) was released during was tropical electro/house. Not only would it sound too noisy in comparison--she could also run the risk of getting criticized for "needing" RedOne and Bad Romance 2.0s, 3.75s, etc to be relevant. Perfect Illusion was the closest to her previous EDM hits, and we all saw how it was received. Something different had to be used as a pivot. C2C was a start but never fully counted because it was not a stand alone effort from Gaga. Going stripped down was a smart idea because not only did it show an additional layer of versatility, it kept her away from a number of things the critics hated so much about her last era. Joanne is that one album you see in an artist's discography--the album where the artist bares it all, something that really is about who (s)he is, what (s)he really thinks of, what music (s)he really wanted to do. It's that album that isn't the most successful, and yet somehow is a hallmark piece. One that will stand the test of time because it's so honest, and did not chase trends. It stood on its own, withstanding the noise of its contemporaries, and even its predecessors. It's the album that will be praised not because of the charts, but because of how it really helped the artist grow and reflect which direction to take next. It's the breather following a high or a rush that became too toxic too fast--the palate cleanser that came at the right time when even your favorite dish started tasting bland. Yes, it's not the most original concept, but this is what she needs now--whether to reach catharsis, to try out something new or to simply cross it off her to-do list or a combination of those. Sister 9,907
Gaga might not ever go back to her retro electro pop princess style again though. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Noah 26,941
I really love Gaga (obviously) and I totally get your point, and lowkey agree, but... With Joanne I feel like Gaga is opening different opportunities for herself. In a way, that she'll get finally some respect for her talent and voice and that will make the 'crazy' that will come back (Confirmed by Gaga) more easy to accept. Now, She's 30 already and in 20 years - I'll doubt that she'll wear a meat dress, but I think with the next Record and a new Concept, she will do something totally different. That's just Gaga. We all knew a Album that is just 'meh' or 'okay' would happen for anyone. If it's 'Joanne' for you then that's it. I feel like, she just needed to do a record about her family. Now that's done. What's next? We don't know. (I hope she starts working with Mattman & Robin though) ⟡ ⋆ ˚。⋆🦢⋆ ˚。⋆⟡
Bear 7,515
I think it's her best album in terms of quality and craftsmanship, but perhaps not as strong when it comes to the concept and artistic intention of the album. I'm ok with that though- I prefer it being direct rather than trying to force the artistry when it isn't there i.e ARTPOP. The "era" on the other hand is pretty lackluster so far and she seems somewhat disinterested in her own work right now, and I think that is what a lot of people feel is missing. We're used to getting the full package with Gaga (The music, the videos, the performances, the art, the message, the clothes etc) and so far the focus has been primarily the music. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing but rather noticeably different.

What's next? We don't know. (I hope she starts working with Mattman & Robin though) That never happened though? The album's reception is arguably not what a lot of us expected. Gaga got her raving reviews for her pure talent earlier this year during her Sound Of Music performance for example. And by the way, there is nothing holding Gaga back from wearing a meat dress in 20 years except for her acting like a woman in her golden years, and that's what she sounds like right now. She comes across redundant and uninterested in what she calls her most personal and close-to-heart album. I understand her late aunt Joanne being the driving force of creativity behind this album, but the grief aura surrounding this era feels alienating at least for me. If she was celebrating the soul and spirit of Joanne it would be a different case, but I didn't sign up to grieve for a woman who's family I don't belong to or let alone know. It feels intrusive in a way. It shouldn't be surprising that a lot of fans are giving up (thought lets be honest when those bops make a comeback so will they ) with the Gaga 'drop' from every single aspect. I'll be watching from afar but this era as a whole isn't for me. It seems like Gaga is just realizing that an album so raw and stripped down might not have been the best current decision. Maybe that would explain the lack of promo and enthusiasm.
