@ReidOne I feel like you need some serious props for presenting this in such a respectful and well thought out manner

We've gotten so used to "lel joanne sux. fite me lil delulus" :neyde:

I definitely see where you're coming from.

What's always been my favorite part of Gaga's music is taking it apart and over analyzing everything. Finding allusions and metaphors in every lyric, in every sound. ARTPOP was such a feast for that. Born This Way was too :saira: Joanne though...not so much. It's plainly stated and not really open to interpretation at all. While that has its own benefits (it feels more honest and authentic...maybe less pretentious than her previous efforts :laughga:) it still leaves something to be desired by little cryptics like me.

You totally get what I was trying to say with that --- thank you, @PartySick:diane:

I wouldn't go that far. Yeah, her promo this era, compared to other's, is lack-luster, but I wouldn't say that she's just doing nothing.

Much of why she's halted promo was because of the election, and I think rightfully so. It was one of the most important elections in modern history, she has every right to be apart of that if she so desires.

You voluntarily buy her music, you voluntarily stream her songs, you voluntarily get on a site dedicated to her. She could have stopped being in this business after ARTPOP, we all know how hard that time was on her. Don't act like she's just sitting around doing nothing.

She's been doing barely nothing since September. The election is just an excuse.

Like I said, this election's one of the most important, if not, the most important one in modern history. She had every right to participate in it. It shows she actually cares about her country and about people.

She'll do some fantastic promo in the future. Yes, like I said, it's been last-luster, but you can't just paint her as someone who's just a lazy a**, sitting around doing nothing. She's a very hard worker and she has a lot of things planned.

this era is simply the OPPOSITE of what I stan her for.

I'm not anti-Joanne. I'm just missing Lady Gaga

The Joanne era is great and all, but it doesn't feel... Gaga?

I totally agree with you guys. At the same time, this is precisely what Gaga aimed to do with this album. She even titled it "Joanne" and asked to be called as such.

Unfortunately for those of us who obsess over FameGa it means an entire era, including SB, that feels unlike her even though it's meant to be all about her.

However, we should not feel discouraged. Joanne is Gaga's hardest attempt to be opposite to FameGa, and she apparently struggled to let her former go. This means that her natural tendency is to make pop music from her Gaga-est phase. Heck, she even has a full RedOne album locked away somewhere. Let's just hope it comes out soon.

Gaga has wide ranging influences she likes to explore.  In some ways it was unfortunate for her that she became known as a dance-pop diva, because that part of her initial fanbase will always associate her with that era almost exclusively.  Pop always puts people, especially female pop stars, into well defined niches that they don't expect them to stray from.  Madonna may be appreciated for it now but she had plenty of detractors as she changed things up.

What Gaga does at any given moment will be what she feels the need to explore about herself.  To me TF Gaga was never the "real" Gaga, if you can even define such a thing.  She came out wearing the Ziggy lightning bolt, how much bigger symbol is necessary that she had taken on a particular persona?  I've been waiting for a Joanne type project from her; and tbh I think that John Wayne might be the most innately "Gaga" song she's ever done as far as expressing her complete personality. She shows different sides of herself all the time.  Its all sides of the same coin.

She is going to churn fans, by her very nature.  At times any one of us may not feel connected to her.  It's fine, sit it out and enjoy other artists.  My favorite artists have all delivered albums that I didn't like at some time or another, and then have later delivered things I liked better.  With someone like Gaga, it's best to keep an open mind instead of being constantly nostalgic about "the Gaga you fell in love with."

I agree

- I find this era very alienating. 🤔 Sometimes I'm listening to the old TFM/BTW songs and I start wondering where that Gaga is. But really this is her all along, but it doesn't feel that way.

- She keeps expanding and growing, which I love, but I think she may have gone too far?

- I think she needed to get this sort of personal album out of her system, expressing her inner feelings and experience, free from pop music's expectations. I forgot who, either Mark or her, said she knows she can write hits about anything she wants but she wanted to focus on writing about things she felt were important to write about.

For me i just keep remembering that time she said her "gaga side" was resting up for this album and yet, we got what seems like the least gaga album ever in every aspect of the word: Music, symbolism, costumes, promo, performances etc etc. I'm happy with Joanne and realize this was what she wanted, but i can't get over when she seems to neglect her own work but then says over and over " I know what the fans want, they deserve so much." Idk i just thought after all the disappointments ARTPOP had, followed by a 3 year gap, this album would've been much more interesting and iconic. Even with the amas on sunday, i feel like it is too late for MR and the only interesting thing this era will be the SB which, tbh, i am more excited to see her perform her older music than anything from Joanne.

Tbh  This is what bothers me the most about the era. I LOVE folk/indie/alt-rock/country. If Gaga had become Amish and gone full country and executed it well God knows I would've been all over it.

But this album is just very...middle of the road to me. Idk. It's good, but it's nothing special

And if this is the music Gaga wanted to put out, then fine. But it frustrates me because I know Gaga is capable of greatness

lowkey agree with this. That's what I tried to say the other day but was worded incorrectly and knowing this site.....

I wonder if she thought she would alienate some of her fans when she was writing this album. Surely it crossed her mind.

I honestly think she has a higher idea of her fanbases tolerance for her experiments than exists in reality.  but in any case I don't think she'd let fan opinions controll her expression, as well she shouldnt

need that voice in check for your reunion tour in 2060

I love that you're suggesting Gaga should have a reunion tour of herself in 60 years, starring Lady Gaga, Joanne, Jo Calderone, Stefani Germanotta, Creative Rebellion, and the 60 other iterations of herself she'll create along the way :air:

I never thought I'd see the day @ReidOne would have a meltdown about Gags no matter how toned down it is. I can't just brush this off, because it's you  I still don't see why this album has so many fans let down. Everyone was loving it when it debuted with 201K :madge:
